When did you start to show?

Hi

I have a DD, aged 2. I didn't start to show until I was around 16 weeks when I went into maternity clothes. However all my work trousers feel tight by the end of the day and quite uncomfortable, and I'm only 7 wks 5 days. Is it normal to show earlier on your 2nd? I don't feel like I can see a bump but my waist in general has thickened if that makes sense.

Hi RayeB, i showed with ds1 at around 22 weeks, this time (4th pregnancy had 2 m/c) i am showing and only 8 weeks, by the end of the day there's a definite bump. No-one else can see it through every day clothes thankfully as not planning on telling anyone until 14 weeks though judging the roundness may be difficult!! Even DH doesnt know yet am going for viability scan ohh now!!! Hope to chat soon and don't worry we all are different

BabyValentine · 23/07/2010 09:49

Hi Raybe - I was the same with DD, didn't start to show until 18-20 weeks. I am now 10+5 with DC2, and I am having to choose my clothes very, very carefully! Will definitely be wearing maternity clothes within the next couple of weeks. I also noticed a thickening of the waist within a couple of weeks of my BFP.

I suppose once the muscles have done it once, they know the only way is out and give up any form of resistance!

Can't remember when I started showing with DS1, but now I am 25 weeks with DS2 and was able to hide at work until 5 months! When I told at work, people were guessing "3 months now?" which made me feel very pleased

Necessary to mention, that this not showing thing is due to my BMI of 33 (the only positive thing about being overweight!)

PickleSarnie · 23/07/2010 09:54

sam26oscar, your DH doesn't know?! How are you managing to keep it a secret?! Mine would guess the second I turned down alcohol! (but clearly I was a bit of a lush)

sam26oscar · 23/07/2010 10:53

pickleSarnie lol, i don't drink that much so thats not a problem!! DH works away and only comes back at weekends!!Bloody amazing got pg really!!I can hide the sickness and tiredness by sending him and DS1 off for the day!!

RayeB · 23/07/2010 18:24

Wow Sam, can't believe you are that good at secrets. I really considered doing the same this time around as well as had mmc in Jan and it knocked us both for 6 - I think him just as much. So this time round he's mega nervous, I wish I could have kept it quiet and then just surprised him with definite good news. Well done on keeping schtum! But so far so good this time round for me, so fingers and toes and eyes crossed. Will go dig out some bigger clothes, glad it's not just me!

With DS I started showing at around 22 weeks. Even then a lot of people who didn't know me didn't spot it properly at 30 weeks.

This time round started showing at 5 weeks. Huge bloated belly. One person spotted it at 6 weeks (cautiosly asked me) and now another person spotted a huge bump on me at 11 weeks and was convinced I'm pregnant. Managed to throw them both off course by not lying but gosh, was I depressed about how big I'd become so quickly! I know they're convinced I'm pg.

MissCKitty · 23/07/2010 20:04

Its my first pregnancy and I had a 'rounded' belly from about 7/8 weeks. Am now 12+6 and there's definitely the beginnings of a proper bump although it's size can vary throughout the day. One of my friends said she was in actual maternity clothes by week 14 with both of her DC's and it looks like I may be heading that way too as my trousers for work have gone from size 10 to 14!!!!

lilmamma · 25/07/2010 18:48

my daughter has just started to show, she is 18+ weeks and is a size 8,but not for much longer lol.

gigglet · 25/07/2010 18:58

I'm 9 weeks and my jeans and skirts are getting a bit tight. Strange thing is, I've barely put on any weight. Maybe 0.5kg? I'm thinking it must mainly be bloating, because I can't see how they can feel that tight with so little extra weight.

snowmummy · 25/07/2010 19:00

This is my third pregnancy and people started to notice my bump at 9 weeks. I'm now 11 weeks and can't get into my own clothes

superpenguin · 26/07/2010 13:03

I'm 8 weeks with my first and whilst I wouldn't say I am 'showing' (I already had a big belly before!) I do feel my clothes are getting tighter round the waist. I'm a size 16. I think a lot of it is bloating as the baby is only v tiny at this stage! and I have actually lost a bit of weight in the last couple of weeks, it's just my stomach area getting uncomfortable.

But people should NEVER ask someone if they are pregnant unless they have a massive bump and it's obvious! what if they weren't? wouldn't you be mortified!
So unless you meet someone with no tact whatsoever, people might wonder but will assume you're just putting a bit of weight on I would think.

Deliaskis · 26/07/2010 13:50

First pregnancy here, 11+4 and have a definite expanding mid-section. Not a proper bump really but very uncomfortable in normal clothes, so am going for the hair bobble trick and bump band at the mo.

Will be relieved when I have my scan tomorrow and can 'come out' and wear comfier clothes.

Was big to start with so thought it would be ages before I started to show, but I can tell already, especially before putting on clothes with a defined waistband.

emmyloo2 · 26/07/2010 13:52

I didn't start to properly show until around 22 weeks but I am out of my normal trousers by 8 weeks. I was pretty slim before I got pregnant so my waist was the first thing to expand and my trousers were too uncomfortable. However, I didn't really get a noticable bump until around 22 weeks. I am now 25 weeks and have a bump but it's not massive. I alternate between wearing my regular clothes (dresses) and maternity wear (trousers).

I was amazed at how quickly I couldn't wear my normal jeans and trousers!

andiw77 · 26/07/2010 17:36

I am 8 weeks 2 days with DC2 with a 14 year age gap. I cant remember when I showed with my first but I def have stated to show. At the end of the day my work skirt feels as tho it cutting me in two!! I dread to think what size I'll be later on!!
