FEELING SICK ALL DAY

worrywarts · 22/07/2010 17:01

Ok I know its not Hyperemis Gravidium (sp) but I am feeling nauseous all day. It's really getting me down now. I"m about 7 1/2 weeks (accordingly to my early scans but I think I'm later than that) and have had it for 3 weeks.

I can't do much at all. I have good days and bad days.

The flat is a tip, my DD has chicken pox, and I'm trying to eat a cheese sarnie because that's all I can eat at the moment, whilst sitting on the bed watching a DVD.

I can't cook in the evening, I can't stand the smell. I have to eat before I get out of bed in the morning and every hour after that. It pretty much has to be carbs although I've been trying to get some fruit in.

I feel better if I drink ginger ale and it makes me burp! Sorry if TMI!

Any tips?
Just make me feel better please.

Try snacking on things like crackers so that you almost constantly have food going in.

I found the travel bands helpful.

sparklyrainbow · 22/07/2010 17:16

Snacks and lemon squash. Lemon squash is amazing stuff, I carried a bottle of made up squash for weeks and sipped it frequently

Ibizadreams · 22/07/2010 17:17

Ice lollies! Also make sure you are drinking enough fluid - sometimes I feel sick if I'm thirsty, rather than hungry.

The main thing is, don't give yourself a hard time for not being able to do much at the moment. It doesn't matter if "other women just get on with it" or whatever, just do what you can and sod the rest of it.

Jacksmybaby · 22/07/2010 17:17

Hello ww it's shit isn't it?

My tips would be:

  • eat every hour (sounds like you are doing this already)
  • eat whatever you can keep down and forget about balanced diet for the moment
  • keep sipping water as the most dangerous thing with N&V is dehydration
  • lucozade sport seemed to work for me
  • also polo mints or other sweeties... some people swear by ice lollies or even plain ice cubes
  • go to your GP if you find you are not keeping anything down at all (including water) for more than a couple of days
  • take time off work if you need to
  • get your DP to help out around the house/ with your other DCs if you can
  • kill anyone who suggests you try ginger bicuits

Hope things improve soon.

I also felt like this, I was miserable and depressed but it won't go on forever. I started feeling much better by about 10 weeks and the nausea went away by about 12 weeks (am now 20 weeks). Try to keep your spirits up and stick to plain food like cucumber sandwiches and jacket potatos.

worrywarts · 22/07/2010 17:25

Thanks guys, sparky funnily enough I have some lemon squash here that I've been drinking a lot of! I have a real thing for it at the moment.

I'm not being sick, just constantly feeling sick, so I guess that is a bonus?!?!?!

I have put on about 6lbs already....

I think it doesn't help that I am feeling down and a bit sorry for myself (came off anti-d's recently) so it makes it all worse!

Thanks for your replies.....poor DD is on the sofa scratching and crying from the pox

The constant drip feed of carbs is the only thing that stops me dry retching at my desk.

I'm hoping that it will be better soon and I can eat a better diet but at the moment it's crackers and crisps and toast, although I can do fruit too.

Don't beat yourself up, our house is a midden and DH has had to sort tea for the last 2 months as I can't do cooking if I'm hungry. I also retch at the smell of the dishwasher so can't do that either.

If I was feeling more lively I would relish this time when I seem to have been let of chores - it won't last.

Mine is starting to get better at 13wks. But I'm actually at my best between 11am and 4pm, while I'm at work, sorry family!

Jacksmybaby · 22/07/2010 17:31

ww not surprising you're feeling low - but do keep an eye on your mood levels, you can go back on anti-deps in pg if you need to.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/07/2010 17:32

I ate lumps of cheese when I was pg with DS, it was the only thing I could stomach. I started feeling better around 11 weeks but wasn't really better until about 15/16 weeks.

Just found out today that I'm expecting DC2 - I reckon I've got about a week before the sickness kicks in again!

worrywarts · 22/07/2010 17:40

alibaba! eat all you like and what you want now!

when i first found out, I was having huge portions of spinach, green veg, loads of salads for about a week and then WHOOMPH!!!!

Get DD to sunbathe - if it's sunny where you are. It dries the spots up and stops them itching.

I had to put black pepper over everything in order to eat. And would also do as much housework as I could as soon as I woke up, before eating or drinking anything, as even water would start me off.

And, of course, congratulations!

worrywarts · 22/07/2010 18:38

Damn.. shouldn't have said I haven't been sick yet. Just spent ten minutes over a bucket

Can I join the sicky gang? 8 till bedtime I feel rough! Ginger tea helps a touch and non stop eating... My dinner was two croissants...all i fancied. But I am eating every two hours or so to avoid dry heaving. Not puked yet though!

Worst thing is my office is openj plan so i can smell what everyone else is eating, now THAT is bad. So often it smells like someone has emptied the compost bin on their plate! Urgh.

I'm 7 wks today...really hope it all stops soon, I HATE feeling I'll! My husband has been a star throughout: cooking all sorts that I fancy.

It doesn't seem right that tired pregnant women should suffer morning sickness, like we don't have enough to put up with.

Seems like there's a tummy bug going round at the moment as well, loads of people I know all being sick around me(I fit right in!), so everyone, wash your hands and avoid ill people. The few months after the bird flu scare was wonderful because everyone washed their hands and was extremely cautious, and for a few months I caught no flu or tummy bug as nobody around me was ill (normally I catch them every other month as my immune system is quite low)

anonMum2 · 22/07/2010 20:53

oops.. I meant swine flu!

sarahscot · 22/07/2010 21:09

I second the travel bands. I'm 6+4 and feel pretty much the way you do. I got travel bands yesterday and although I'm still feeling a bit sick, I'd say I'm 75% better than I was. Even managed to take DS to the cinema today, would've been impossible this time yesterday.

Someone else recommended the 'Nevasic' iPhone app. I've not tried it but hear it works quite well for some people.

MimsyStarr · 22/07/2010 21:10

If you have a favourite perfume, you might want to stop wearing it for now - before you forever associate that smell with feeling sick.

Hope it passes soon.

Shazkins · 23/07/2010 09:00

Sorry to say but I'm so glad you're all feeling sick- cos it makes me realise that it's all totally normal!!

Am pg with first bambino and pretty much terrified. Not sure how many weeks as had no period in June but did have negative home test then no period in early July so did test which was positive- so could be 5wks, could be 9. Have doctors appt on Tues so will see what they reckon.

Anyway, am nauseous all the time, frequent retching but only 3-4 actual voms- one of which at work so had to hide out in the toilets so no-one saw me and started the pg rumours!!!

Am getting by on carbs, which means mucho extra lbs and can't cope with gym as am scared I'll vom on treadmill- imagine the mess!!!

Am off to grab some lemon & ginger tea (seems to work?!?!) and a handful of pretzels. May your Friday be lovely and nausea-free ladies.xx

worrywarts · 23/07/2010 16:55
