What should my stomach be measuring at 24 weeks?

Hi,

I had my 24 week mid-wife appointment yesterday and I measured 25 cm. She thought this was fine. Is this normal? I don't feel that big at all and in fact thought my bump was quite small. But I thought you were meant to measure the same number of cm as weeks? Can it be affected by your body shape? I have quite a long torso...if that makes sense!!

sounds like a lovely bump! I also found that different midwives could come up with different measurements in the same week, so I wouldn't get be too concerned

In broad terms, yes, it should be the number of weeks = number of cms (with a margin or 2-3 cms depending on local policy). So, 24 weeks and 25 cms bump is spot on.

But yes, the bump measurements vary depending on who is measuring, which waythe baby's lying, have you had lunch etc etc

Ok great thanks! I had just eaten lunch so that probably added some cms.

She was perfectly happy with the measurement so I guess it's fine! Thanks!

Hi emmyloo2, I just went for my check-up today am at 24 weeks too. Mine measured 26cms and when I had a look in my maternity notes afterwards I saw from the little graph thingy that anywhere around that (few cms either way) is absolutely fine at our stage. Dunno about anyone else but my bump seems to get bigger throughout the day- and more solid too

Thanks redbird. My bump definitely gets bigger as the day goes on. Some mornings I can almost suck it in and have a flat stomach and then by the evening I look 8 months pregnant. It's just bloating and fluid retention I think.

Mine can be hard as a rock by nighttime! And uncomfortable as well!!

I went for check up and was told they don't start measuring till 28 weeks now here now.

They would have said if they were concerned though.

Apparently 3cm out either way is fine.

AFAIK it's just a random coincidence that your fundal height is roughly the same as your no. of weeks, there's no rule that it must match exactly.

I was 24cm at my 25 week check and MW was happy with that.

Nothing to worry about. Much more of a problem if you are measuring very small for your dates - measuring 1 cm too big is definitely no cause for concern.
