Hi, I'm a bit confused and feeling a bit silly about it but hope someone can help. The first day of my last period was 10th June 2010. I have roughly a 28 week cycle. I'm pretty sure the day of conception was 24th June 2010.

All the websites etc say that I am 5 weeks pregnant because it is worked out from the first day of your last period.

So when is the 12 week scan? Is it at 12 weeks from your last period or 12 weeks from date of conception. Am I 5 weeks or 3 weeks???

Sorry if that makes me sound really stupid

Pg dated from the first day of your last period. You get an extra 2 weeks for free!

Everything is calculated from the first day of your last period. So when you're 2 weeks pregnant, you're actually just about to do the deed! One of the idiosyncracies re pregnancy timings - that and pg lasting 9 months yet 40 weeks...

Apparently in many places on the continent, they count it as being from conception as it's likely to be more accurate. Which only helps if you know when you conceived. I've had 3 and I would honestly say I'd have no idea at all!

Your no of weeks is always calculated from the date of your last period i.e. you are 5 weeks. This means that for the first 2 weeks there is technically nothing there - slightly strange, but it's just the way its done!

Congratulations by the way!

This is why they let you go to 42 weeks before induction under normal circumstances - because in reality that is only 40 weeks but they can't be 100% sure when you conceived.

So - forget your actual conception point from now and just work to the medical profession's POV - which means you are now 5w pg.

Congratulations!

Oh good, thanks everyone - i was beginning to worry I'd have to wait another 9 weeks for my scan not 7.
