BFP but spotting

Help!

I have been TTC for a few months and always have 2/3 days brown spotting before my period starts. This spotting always starts 9DPO like clockwork. I did see my GP about this and she was not concerned in the slightest

Anyway, this spotting did not arrive 9 DPO this month so I though that maybe it was good news. I then got the spotting (brown) on the day my period would be due which was Friday. This spotting has lasted all weekend so took a test on Monday on the off-change and lo-and-behold its a BFP. I did another test today and that was also positive. But my question is, why am I still spotting? I also have cramps like AF is about to arrive. I'm just scared and dont want to feel happy about a BFP just incase....

Has this happened to anyone else?n I calculated I must be about 4 weeks preg.

It could be implantation bleeding, it could be breakthrough bleeding or it could be the start of a miscarriage. Only time will tell unfortunately.

If things don't go well, your doc should really run some tests to check your progesterone levels go up enough. The "21 day" progesterone test should be done a week after you ovulate. Low progesterone can cause fertility issues, but can be treated easily, so do insist on the test if things don't go well this month.

Thanks Japhrimel. I've made an appointment to see the GP tomorrow so we'll see. The positive thing is knowing that I can actually conceive!

Yep, definitely. It's a step forward whatever happens. Try to hang on to that.

hi have posted on your thread in conception - have experienced similar in this pg, now 8+1 weeks. As japh says it's wait and see... unless your GP is truly exceptional, don't expect any amazing answers. Alas it's such early days, only regular blood tests to check levels could tell you much. Too early for scan. Good luck.

Hi there, sorry to hijack but I have a similar issue.
A week ago (Monday) in the evening I has horrendus stomach cramps and vomited for 2 hours. I thought I probably had eaten something dodgy. I then had spotting for a couple of days until Wednesday afternoon which I thought was probably AF coming. On Friday afternoon I was violently sick and thought what the hell, I'll do a test. Came up with a BFP although pretty faint, did another, same result. Saturday evening the spotting started again - only when I wiped though, and the blood was bright red. This continued until Sunday lunch time.
Did another test yesterday with a conception indicator which put me at 1-2 weeks (or 3-4 weeks in doctors terms).
My worry is that the spotting was a miscarriage and its the remaining hormones giving me a BFP.
Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hi Snowfalls,

I've nothing to add really but when I'd googled my symptoms there were lots of people who had red spotting too. I'm not sure if you would still get a BFP too. I would try to get a doctors appointment they might b able to do some tests?

It's hard not to panic isn't it? Maybe someone else can offer more help...

even bright red blood need not necessarily be bad news. It's another wait and see really. If bleeding gets heavier or you feel unwell seek medical advice.

Hope it all works out for you.

japhrimel · 20/07/2010 13:26

Snowfalls, unforunately only time will tell with you too (unless you can get 48 hourly HCg blood tests, but most doctors don't bother that early on). FWIW, the conception indicators aren't all that accurate so don't rely on them either way.

If there's no clots or darker blood, it's a good sign, but doesn't mean things won't go that way. If you do miscarriage at 4 weeks, it will be at least as heavy as your normal period and may be heavier or more painful.

Snowfalls108 · 20/07/2010 13:27

hmm - its so frustrating!

Snowfalls108 · 20/07/2010 13:40

no clots and no darker blood, and it was very very light and not painful. So I will keep my fingers crossed!
Thanks to you all a sorry wakarimasen for hijacking

I saw my GP who was largely unhelpful (she seems to just want to get me out as quick as possible) Told me to retest in a week and if positive to book in with midwife!

Anyway I went back on Friday and saw anogther doctor who was just amazing! She knew I was concerned so telephoned the Early Preg Unit for advice. They have booked me in for an early scan in 2 weeks. The spotting has reduced greatly now and I'm hoping to not see any at all today......

Just trying to put it to the back of my mind now until the scan.......

Good luck for your scan wakarimasen - EPU's are brilliant.

banana87 · 26/07/2010 10:22

Implantation bleeding. But see your GP and tell them because they will refer you to EPU. Be sure you wait until after you are 6 weeks to go though, as going before that may worry you unecessarily as they dont often see much.

wakarimasen · 26/07/2010 11:22

Yes I will be just over 7 weeks (all going well) when I go for the scan so hopefully they will be able to see something by then

I spotted (all colours) for 9 days, 2 weeks before AF was due, and I assume it was implantation bleeding. All was well and I'm 19 weeks preg now. The others are right, time will tell - it's hard I know, but it seems hopeful so far. Good luck for your scan x
