You know that horrible pressure pain that you get under your rib towards the end of pregnancy? Where your baby is pushing on your rib cage causing all day discomfort? Well I've got it already and I'm only 25 wks!

This is baby number 4 and the first 3 have all been around 10lbs so I tend to suffer with rib pain from about 32 wks as things get a bit cramped in there! But not at 25 wks!!!

So anyone got any advice? Any way of relieving this discomfort? Or is this it for the next 15 weeks??!! It eases when I lie down but that's not very practical with 3 DCs to run around after!

I also have the pressure pain under my ribs and I am only 26 weeks. I have had it for the past two weeks for sure, it is really uncomfortable. My midwife said that it can start as early as 20 weeks.

26 weeks with DC2 and feeling (and sharing) your pain.

Watching my posture seems to help a bit, lots of cushions. Anyway, sympathies.

I had this but it's eased off recently, I'm 35 wks- I guess baby is engaged?! Anyway a ball thing to sit on and lean on helped me as well as taking off my bra (totally unlike me but seemed to help sometimes!) and getting on all fours whenever I could. I know you've got kids to look after, but I just did it at work whenever I could. Much to others' bemusement.

Thanks for your replies. Good to know I'm not alone but sorry to hear you're suffering!

Margherita - anything is worth a try - might give my older kids a giggle

I spoke to my midwife friend this evening and she suggested the following:

.sit in positions that elongate the torso rather than shorten it
.lay on the side where the pain is worst
.to get relief when extra sore, sit with arms above your head (not the most comfy of positions but does seem to give short term relief from rib pain!)
. try an icepack / paracetamol if it becomes too painful.
. seek medical advice if the pain travels to your shoulders / back of ribs..

Hope some of that helps
