TMI...but can midwives/doulas help with a cervix question?

you might have read my other thread, i'm being induced in a couple of weeks time.

i'd really like to be able to have a spontaneous labour before then.

In the bath tonight I tried to cop a feel of my cervix.

hard to reach when preg, but I gave it a good go with one leg bent right up and fingers all the way up there (sorry!).

usually can feel end of nose type cervix. all I could feel was squishiness.

so, is my cervix SO high I can't feel it, or is it so soft that I can't???

any thoughts?

i do not know the answer to your question, but could you get your dh/dp to feel for you?

OnEdge · 19/07/2010 22:12

Oooh be careful doing that, could you introduce infection??

not a midwife but my husband had a feel yesterday and he says that I now feel squishier and flatter than normal -- I can only reach a tiny bit so cant feel. I dont know what this means and googling hasnt helped me!

1st baby or not?

fernie3 · 19/07/2010 22:38

oo sophable I am being induced august 4th if no baby by then! this is my fourth I am hoping that means she turns up before then but people keep telling me its meaningless lol.

If it isn't your first baby then your cervix would always be slightly dilated (multip's os) so no matter how soft it is you'd be able to feel it as long as you could reach it.

I have (only couple of times) felt a primip's cervix that was very hard to miss as they were undilated but fully effaced and soft, if its like this the cervix can feel almost like a blister and be easily missed.

stripey, no not my first.

dh copped a feel and said it was squishy, but he could feel it.

sigh.
