If you had SPD when pregnant, how did your labour start??

Just curious really,had spd with ds1, started contracting a little at 41+3, was then properly induced following day due to lack of progress.

ds2, didnt have spd at all, born at 40+4 after natural labour.

now pregnant with dc3, 41weeks and have spd again this time, am worried that although head is 3/5 engaged that maybe the spd is inhibiting labour from starting naturally. Am so scared of being induced again and not having lovely waterbirth

any experiences to share?

Induced at 38wks I'm afraid.

im 32wks, and have spd im in my 4th pregnancy,never had it with the others, and i have gest diabeties, so they want to take me at 36wks, im crapping myself, xx and induce me

Can I ask why you were induced at 38wks button+pantaloons? was it because of the pain?

They refuse to induce early round here but is bloody cruel imo

The thing is though- was it true SPD? I've been to see a physio regarding what I thought was SPD but she said in all her 20 years of doing physio she has only ever seen 2 genuine cases of SPD and for the most it is mechanical pain women are feeling.

I don't think SPD would have any bearing on how labour starts or when. Why would it? It's to do with ligaments and joints being too relaxed and moving apart.

For the record I had a lot of pain due to what I though was SPD, and it may well have been but I didn't see a physio about it then, I've just been to see one recently as I am pregnant again and would like to prevent a repeat of last time, but my labour was long, painful and ended in a emergency c-sect but that was due to my son being OP and me being in a poor position due to the epidural, nothing to do with SPD.

Waters broke at 3am on his edd. He was born at 5pm on the same day. Lovely labour.

I had pretty awful spd with dc1 and dc3. Dc3 was born 3 weeks ago and as soon as contractions started I got some mobility back. head was 3/5 engaged for a month before. 6 hours intotal with a 5min 2nd stage. Given how immobile I was before it was pretty good the whole thing (at home by the way, i would have struggled to walk out to the car). As for this true spd thing, well it's about the same as the spd/pgp debate, whatever it is it renders pg women immobile and it bloody hurts. it can be ok glastgoddess and i hope it goes well for you.

I've had severe spd twice, ending up on crutches, wheelchair with both.

Spd has no affect on natural labour, how or when your labour starts, it only affects the delivery of your baby.

Both my labours happened naturally and were very short 4 hours 1st baby and 3 hours 2nd baby. Both deliveries where surprising easy, considering how awful the madwife had told me it would be with SPD.
A toptip the physio gave me was to measure how far apart you are comfy with your legs being open. Mark it out of a piece of ribbon and take it with you when you give birth. That way every one knows how far is comfy for you (just incase your off your face on gas and air!)with out everyone having to guess how long 30cm is!!

I had PGP quite badly, and a good/normal labour, contractions building steadily, quite rapid second stage, no problems. Water birth really helped, as did upright kneeling position.
Can't see any physiological reason why SPD/PGP would inhibit labour, unless maybe pain/adrenalin might suppress oxytocin, but am not an expert.

This time around Ive been seeing the physio from 15 weeks. She said my pelvis is tilted to the left and seems to be unstable. Thats why I was wondering if my pelvis was maybe inhibiting labour in some way.

I dont know wether it is "true" spd, but Ive had it this time since 6 weeks and I cant wait to be out of pain. Something that renders you immobile and unable to do the simplist of tasks without being in chronic pain and needing to take narcotics IMO is not a normal mechanical complaint of pregnancy.

5yearsto40bob-Im really keen to avoid the leg spreading thing, ended up with nrly a ventuse with ds1 and am bloody lucky they didnt do me serious permanant damage since the poles from the stirups were broken hopefully it'll be another nice calm hands off waterbirth! however dp will be quick to inform them what not to do, hes put up with my moaning about the pain for the last 9 months and knows enough of my limits!

Has the physio worked out why your pelvis seems to be tilted to the left? They should.

my physio suggested I kneel and lean on the sofa, not very comfy but that's what I did and then your legs stay where you put them. I needed help getting up though.

Glastonbury I was induced early because of the pain. It was baby number 3 and I had never suffered with it before, but was on crutches from 21 weeks and the physio recommended early induction as I got to the point where it was just impossible.

To be honest, now I know that it wasn't entirely SPD as I still have problems now and DD2 is 3. After 2 years of begging, moaning and generally being a pain I was sent for a couple of scans and it turned out I have 2 old brakes at the base of my spine. One has healed properly and the other has just kept making bone, joining facet joints together and trapping nerves. So I suppose what I mean to say is if the pain continues after birth, don't be fobbed off with "it's from child birth." I was for 2 years and now have another 6 month wait for treatment.
