You are full term at 38 weeks so if you go into labour, it's not considered 'early' - this is in response to your thread title.

I really don't think there is any rhyme or reason as to when you will go into labour with first or subsequent children - it happens when it happens! And just because your first two went overdue, there's no reason to think your third will necessarily.

Everyone you ask will have a different story - first late, second earlier, vice-versa, or both around the same time. So, yes, of course each child can be shorter, but there's no way of knowing in advance unless you have a planned CS or are induced.

I do feel your pain - I am 37+4 and ready as anything for DC2 to arrive!

Well, mine were 40 weeks, 38 weeks, 37 weeks and 24 weeks, although serious complications lead to the 24 weekers. (twins)

The midwife did tell me that your cervix becomes more 'baggy' after each child, particularly after 3 or more, so earlier births are more likely. I have no idea how true this is, but it seems to make sense to me.

Im 39+5 with DC4 and mince have been 40 weeks, 36 weeks and 38 weeks so I guess (much to my annoyance) when they are ready they are ready. Or maybe my pelvic floor exercises have worked and Im 'keeping' her in there ?

You are full term at 37 weeks, not 38. I went into labour (first baby) at 37+1 and she was considered term.

38 weeks isn't really early! You are at term. not sure about subsequent babies coming earlier though... my Mum had me at 36 weeks, the next child at 38, the next at 39 and then my littlest brother at 41! So her experience was the opposite!

38, 40 then 38.
