Hi all, just wondering what sort of weight gain is normal (whatever 'normal' is hey? ) during the first trimester. I have gained about 6 lbs and am 12+2 today. I am also a diabetic so I do think that has an impact on my weight gain, but was just wondering what other peoples' experiences were x

I've put on ... about a stone, I think, and am only 11+3!

No diabetes or anything. I'm very tall and was skinny before so maybe my body 'needs' it. I've gained 3 cup sizes too.

The weight gain has levelled off now. 6lbs doesn't seem like much weight at all! As long as you're eating right, it should be fine.

4 days away from giving birth and put on 12 lbs in first trimester, 10 lbs in second and 4 lbs in third.

Fizzywinelover · 18/07/2010 14:43

28 pounds exactly. 2 weeks post natal I have lost 24 pounds. (I have been joking i could write a book and make a fortune... the lose 2 stone in 2 weeks bikini diet.)

AsiaMajor · 18/07/2010 14:43

Have not put on any weight in first trimester.(14 weeks now) Baby is growing as it should according to 12 week scan, and I am developing a bump, so I am ok with that.

MissCalamity · 18/07/2010 14:45

I put on a total of 1 and a half stone in total. It started to pile on around 20 weeks as I was quite sick up until 17 weeks.

My ds is now 7 months and I still have that pesky half a stone to lose!

burtoc · 18/07/2010 14:46

Am also 12+2 and have put on nothing, but think this is down to having nausea all the time and my body has a bit spare that it can cope without food! Currently living on cup a soup and crackerbread!

ethelina · 18/07/2010 16:12

About 22lb or 1 1/2 stone so far now 33+3/40 weeks. Did not put much on or develop a bump til about 18-20 weeks - i seemed to do all my growing in the 2nd half, have gone up in fits and starts, usually about half a stone in a week then nothing for ages. Doesnt seem to matter how it goes on - it all seems the same in the end.

CheeseChomper · 18/07/2010 16:19

I'm 11+5 and have already put on 6 pounds!

Ibizadreams · 18/07/2010 18:09

I'd put on 6lbs by 13 weeks - then nothing in the last three weeks.

sotough · 18/07/2010 19:43

Am 14 weeks and have not really put on any yet because i feel so nauseous every evening i don't want to eat anything much except soup. put on almost 3st with my last pregnancy due to excessive cake and biscuit consumption and there's no way I'm letting that happen again, it took forever to lose it!

websticks · 18/07/2010 20:15

I am 17wks +4 and have lost 10 lbs since i found out i was preg. My bump is growing tho.

Lozario · 19/07/2010 09:58

I put on nothing in first trimester and then a stone and a half over the rest of it. I looked like a stick with a beach ball attached.

miamix · 19/07/2010 10:22

I've put on the same as you at 12+3.

catftm · 19/07/2010 11:46

i put on 1st 13lb this time, im suprised because i've had a major chocolate craving! Probably put on less because i have a 23 month old to run around after though. Put on 3 stone last pregnancy! I look like i have a beachball stuck up my junmper! 3 days to go!

slimyak · 19/07/2010 11:49

I've been avoiding the scales, but my sickness is controlled only by the drip feed of carbs so I'm thinking at least 1/2 a stone (in breast tissue alone). I'm 12+2 and hoping I can stop grazing soon as it's getting a bit embarrasing.

Last time I put on about 2.5 stone over all and lost the lot without much effort over 6 months of breast feeding.

Unless you feel you made an excessive jump up or down quickly, which may indicate a problem, don't worry about it. Enjoy your pregnancy and do what you need to do to get you through each day.

Now where are those crackers....

26 weeks and I have lost 4lb over all. I ws quite sick in the beginning and lost about a stone.

It's started to all go back on now though.

lucybrad · 19/07/2010 13:28

16 weeks and have gained 12 pounds (opps)

shell96 · 19/07/2010 13:36

I am 17wks and have put on about 10lbs so far. With DS I put on 3 and a half stone (!) by the time he was born but managed to lose it quite quickly.

More worried about putting on weight this time because last time I walked 3 miles a day, 5 days a week up until my last couple of weeks of work before maternity leave but now I have to drive each day to drop DS at childminders so am getting hardly any exercise at all!!

LolaKnickers · 19/07/2010 14:00

2 stone by full term.

japhrimel · 19/07/2010 14:06

4 pounds is the average ideal weight gain for the 1st trimester afaik. How much weight it's good to gain varies depending on your pre-pregnancy BMI as if you were overweight, it's best to put a bit less on.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though. In the first trimester I think you often have to just do whatever you have to do with food to cope with the sickness and fatigue.

Bonsoir · 19/07/2010 14:08

18kg.

About 5 kg of baby and placenta, about 6 kg of water, and about 7 kg of fat breastmilk.

Bonsoir · 19/07/2010 14:09

Oh sorry - didn't see you were referring to first trimester. 3kg.

PJen · 19/07/2010 14:11

I am 20 wks and my weight is a yo yo from morning to evening and from evening to next morning... Honestly I can weigh 5 lbs more in the morning and then lose it all during day and then sleep and have it back on! It is strange but it is mostly water retention... Anyway, I have put on 6 lbs so far and I put it all in the first 12 weeks... from wk 12 to now I haven't put anything on but my belly is 4x bigger...

asdx2 · 19/07/2010 14:41

With my first I put on 3 stone as I think I saw it as an excuse to indulge.
With my subsequent four babies I put on half a stone so left hospital in my normal clothes each time.
First baby was smallest at 7lb all the others were nearer 8lb.
