36 week scan for low lying placenta

I have a scan booked for this but wanted to check (as no one has mentioned this) whether this is a normal (external scan) or a vaginal one. Any ideas?

External

Don't panic, it's external, I had mine on Thursday! Thankfully placenta has moved up, hope yours has too!

Excellent - I was invited to take part in a research study as part of my 36 week scan which seems to be about having a vaginal scan, so I think they are just trying it on to get participants.

I had an external scan but baby's head was in the way of the vital area! So had to have an internal scan as well, so maybe be prepared for the eventuality - but I didn't find it was too bad.

Did you have a 32 weeks scan to check if your placenta had moved? I have to have one in ten wks time at 32 wks to check if it has and I was wondering if it is still low will they do it again at 36 weeks or just book a c section? I should have asked more questions at the time but they came to me after and my midwife isn't the most knowedgable person it seems as most the things she's informed me of have been contradictory to the hospital so just wondering what your understanding of this is.x

I'm 30 wks and have a low lying placenta but was told this is not demanding of a CS. Mine is not praevia totalis so I can still give birth naturally.

I've not had a 32 week one - 36 weeks only as the position of the placenta at 20 weeks wasn't covering the cervix, just up to it. I know what you mean about thinking of questions afterwards, the sonographer seemed really relaxed and just said come back at 36 weeks. It was only later I started to google and get a bit concerned that I didn't know more. Your midwife sounds a bit unhelpful though.

My midwife is a bit unhelpful to be honest but I've had hospital clinic apts booked instead of seeing her as they thought she was being too laid back about when she thought I should go as I was told at 16 wks 'i'll see you next at 34 wks as u have a scan at 20 and bloods at the hospital at 28' but as this is my second I knew she's forgotten i'd need a growth chart, and all the other checks monthly so I mentioned it at the hospital and they booked me in with their clinic which is fine by me. Just means I don't have a relationship with her and I don't really feel comfortable or welcome to contact her with my questions. I am interested to know more so I will ask at my next hospital appointment in a few wks.
