Hi everyone just wondered - has anyone else taken Canesten for thrush while pg?? I am 33 weeks and have suffered from it from early on but so far have been able to cope with it without taking anything. My MD said it was OK to take it, but I am still a bit worried about it .

Would apreciate your experiences, tx

I used the canesten cream (on advice of GP).

Unfortunately, I ran out of it when I was around 38 weeks and it came back for the last couple of weeks. I never got round to getting more cream and DS developed thrush just after he was born (I also got it in my boobs from b'fing him). I was told that it doesn't pass through the birth canal and it was just coincidence, but I'm not convinced.

Try and get it sorted now if you can

Yes I did, at about the same time during my recent pregnancy and had no problems. My doctor gave me the version which has a capsule to insert into the vagina and some cream to apply externally. I think I was so nervous with the insertion that I didn't do it well enough (some came out into the loo) but it definitely helped. I thought it was better to sort it out before the birth.
Hope that helps. Good luck with it all.

Thanks for the advice - yes I will have to give it a go as I am now itching and it's not pleasant!!!

I did too. I got it lots a while back and was prescribed a pessary and cream which worked, but then had to take a course of antibiotics for something else which brought it back on, so I then used the Canesten pessary and cream and it has(touch wood) not come back since.

Up to now I've been using the cream that you insert inside with a cream for the outside .

Recently though I've had to ring GP to get the six day course of pessaries with cream as it's not going away. I am on profalactic antibiotics though so only get a short period of relief before it comes back.

I used the pessary and external cream last week and am 34 weeks pregnant. Cleared it up very quickly and baby is still very active! Got advise from midwife and then phoned GP for prescription which I picked up next day. Hope you get it sorted, a friend of mine had it from 12 weeks pregnant until her baby was 6 months and used the pessaries a lot.

Get it on prescription, I just did last week at 30 wks, a one 'dose' pessary (pellet thing) and cream. It is not cheap over the counter, and a double prescription item which is of course free if pregnant.
