Private Scan - letter from GP?

I just booked myself in for a private scan on Monday at The Portland and they asked me to bring a letter from my GP with me....?

Can't get through to GP at the moment and highly unlikely I'll be able to get anyone to do it today and we're going to London on Sunday afternoon...

Anyone else experienced this?

What will they do if I don't bring the letter? Not scan me?

Just to clarify I am not claiming on any insurance policy for this but during my last pregnany when I did have insurance to cover my scans I didn't get a letter from my GP each time (different hospital).

I have had a few private scans at ifferent places (not through insurance) and have never been asked for a letter from my GP. I would ignore them or ask them why they need it.

I expect they are only asking for it for insurance reasons, so if you're not claiming it on insurance you can probably just tell them this and they'll be fine. (I have had this conversation before with private medical clinics although for non-pg related things.)

Ok I hope it will be OK as I haven't managed to speak to GP and its 1645 so unlikely I will today now.

I'm only 10 weeks so wonder what GP would write in the letter?!

Women who do not have a GP are still able to arrange for scans. So would agree with others to ignore this request.

You don't need one.
I've had a private scan at the portland and took nothing with me, bar my credit card, of course.
