Vertigo in pregnancy - anybody had it?

I have vertigo and I'm ten weeks pregnant.

Have had several bouts in this pregnancy.

My doctor thinks it is labyrinthitis. My iron levels are good and my blood pressure is normal.

Today's bout is the worst so far.

Symptoms are room spinning when my head is on its side. When I walk it feels like somebody is shaking the room.

Am trying to drink 4 pints of water a day but am throwing up most days.

Anybody else had this? Would be great if anyone has any tips.

I had this badly with my first pregnancy. I had hideous morning sickness too, and the only thing that kind of helped was trying to keep some food down, and carbs were the best. Toast, bananas, pasta. I think it was related to blood sugar as well. I used to carry polos to suck as well. It was 6 years ago so my memory is hazy, but it got much better after the first trimester

Just to add, it may well be hormonal too. My first was a girl and I was hideously sick. My second was a boy and I was fit as a fiddle

I had it in pregnancy and for fourteen (terrifying) months after my daughter was born, not knowing what was wrong with me. It would happen any time, any where - everything would start to spin and if I was out anywhere I'd have to literally lie down on the floor. Got so I was frightened to leave the house.

Not once did the doctors mention labyrinthitis and I was treated for post-natal depression. It was only when I joined this board a few weeks ago, I saw a thread about it and realised that was what I had all those years ago.

Had it (both when pregnant and not).

Tips - change position slowly (ie from lying to standing, sit up a little, wait a few mins, sit up fully then wait for maybe 5 mins before actually standing up). Also try not to move your head side to side or bend over any more than you have to - it will make things worse.

It usually only lasts a day or 2, maybe a little more if you are unlucky, and you may never get it again. If it doesn't resolve you may have another inner ear condition which could mean you are prone to getting further bouts.

You could also try reducing your salt intake, as your fluid balance changes a lot in pregnancy, and this can cause pressure in the ear which may be causing/making worse your symptoms.
