I've had so far today......
2 x toasted fruit loaf
1/2 nature valley bar
ryvita snakky crisp things
pieces of watermelon
cheese sandwich
slice of fruit loaf
jacket potato with beans
raspberries
French fries crisps (I know they're bad)
and I need to eat still otherwise I feel so ill!

Is that normal? I'd say that's quite alot - Im going to eat an apple now

I was hungry all the time in my last pregnancy and put on a lot of weight but it did all come off fairly easily with breastfeeding and sensible eating afterwards.

worrywarts · 14/07/2010 20:08

I'm hoping so. I am trying to make healthy choices - it's just I need to eat carbs more than anything else!!!

Just go with it- I ate loads and gained loads but like Apple said I lost it all through BFing, sensible eating and walking lots. Things should level out in the 2nd trimester for you when you stop feeling so sick all of the time. I am currently 11 weeks pregnant with baby no2 and I havn't gained so much weight this time around mainly because I have lost my appetite but if I do gain then so what. I know it will come off again. It will for you too if you are sensible after.

It's the same with me - I have to eat every 1 or 1 1/2 otherwise that's it.

So I've been nibbling all day apart from the sandwiches, and the potato and that was too much as it made me feel worse!!!

I've just eaten an apple and that's not so great....

I'm hoping it will come off, with my DD, it came off within about 6 months??

Sounds perfectly normal. I am eating every 1 - 1.5 hrs to keep the nausea at bay. I just end up forcing myself to eat despite the fact I don't want it and am utterly sick of making snacks/looking at food because otherwise things get very unpleasant.

7 and a bit weeks here.

sam26oscar · 14/07/2010 20:50

just been reading your posts and thought would jump in!! I seem to have alternate days off stuffing my face full of carbs mainly ready salted crisps afraid to say, and the next day practically nothing, yesterday i had 3 pieces of toast all day but today pasta salad pastry and the old favourite salted crisps. I remember craving salted crisps with ds1 and i only put on 2 stone with him. I also have fowl taste in mouth and eating seems to hide it!! I craved seafood sticks with marie rose sauce for first 2 weeks after finding out was pg, now thought of it makes me gag!!! Any tips on constant nausea v. helpful

japhrimel · 14/07/2010 21:07

Go with the flow - just do what you have to do. I had to eat almost constantly during the first trimester to help the nausea, and mostly high carb not-very-healthy-at-all foods, but I only put on 3 pounds which is fine - even given I started with a high-ish BMI.

I'm now able to eat more healthily and want fruit more than anything else, but I'm still eating more than pre-pregnancy without putting it on anywhere other than bump & boobs.

Being pregnant can increase your metabolism so some women can eat more without gaining extra weight.

I'd just vaguely track your weight (don't obsess) and keep an eye on where you put on weight - if you put it on on your upper arms and thighs it's supposed to be excess and harder to shift afterwards.

Rocklover · 14/07/2010 21:58

I'm the same, although not all my choices are as healthy as op's . I feel like a right bloater, but if I don't eat every hour or so I feel sick and have that gnawing hunger feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I'm 11+4, and I must admit, I am beginning to be able to eat less, but still I am panicking about weight gain as I was a size 16 before I got preg. Vowing to get it all off when baby arrives!

Rocklover · 14/07/2010 21:59

I've put all my weight on my lower tummy...that'll be a bitch to shift I bet!

porcamiseria · 14/07/2010 22:01

it will pass , all normal . fret ye not!

angels1 · 15/07/2010 11:17

so glad I read this - I'm totally the same. I'm 8 1/2 weeks and HAVE to eat all the time or I feel so sick. Yesterday I had:

3 bowls of cornflakes (small bowls though!) some crackers and marmite, toast (quite alot), potato wedges, baked potato and little cheese, pea and mint soup and roll, tomato soup and roll, and probably more that I felt so ill I can't actually remember eating. I feel like such a pig!!

Sometimes it's the extreme hunger that makes me eat, sometimes it's the horrible sick feeling that makes me force food down despite gagging as I know I will feel a bit better afterwards.

I'm worried as I've already put on over 1/2 stone, but I don't know what else to do. I've tried eating less amount/often, but can't cope. I guess I'll have to keep going for a few weeks. But I really hope that it does improve. I'm quite lucky as I'm a teacher and on summer hol at the min, so can eat whenever I need to, but the thought of being like this and having to teach/not being able to eat fills me with worry.

My new thing is to try and eat a small amount of soup as snacks (the blander the better though) as I feel like I'm being relatively healthy/getting some nutrients.

japhrimel · 15/07/2010 11:22

It does get a lot better as you get into the 2nd trimester.

AhickeyfromKenickie · 15/07/2010 11:26

I ate constantly in the first trimester, and 99% of it was carbs - mashed potato, french bread, chips, ready salted crisps. If I didn't eat I'd get sick with hunger after about half an hour. So, whatever gets you through those first months. It does level out after a while. Now I'm at the end of my 2nd trimester there's no space left to put the food, I get full-up after an apple.

worrywarts · 15/07/2010 13:00

I'm so glad there are others like me out there! I've put on the seasickness bands today, and have had some baked snacks from M&S in my bag which I ate every few minutes, plus a lemon cooler drink from M&S which I sipped every few minutes and a very small amount each time, which so far, so far, have kept it at a reasonable level.

Who knows, constantly snacking on carbs seems the way forward. It's so bizarre!

It does seem though that the sharp lemon seems to help?

Crazy isnt it,iam nearly 11 weks and am the same. My hunger comes on suddenly and it hurts! I wheel spun into morrisons the other day whilst out working and ate a whole pack of indian snacks as if my life depended on it (in the car park) An it is carbs i crave too i have not had much nausea but still fancy bread and sugar and jacket potatoes with butter etc or mash potaoes. I havent weighed myself as too scared but i def put it on. Am hoping that i can eat better in a few weeks. Was also determined to carry on with exercise but both times i have been to gym i felt ill after and had bit of spotting the last time so that plan failed. I keep thinking at least i can lose it after and wil have baby to keep me busy and away form temptation.Did manage a visit to cinema last night with no popcorn however i regretted it when i watched other people longingly

slimyak · 15/07/2010 14:04

Same here. From week 5, each time I've been pregnant a constant drip feed of carbs until about 14 weeks has been the only thing keeping me up right, civil and vaguley pink in colour.

Strangely previous times it's always been savory carbs, but this time it's sweet. DH thinks its a boy.

I'm 11+4 and can't wait until after the Scan next week. I'm desparate for an elasticated waist!

ledkr · 15/07/2010 14:38

sod the scan i relented about a week ago as my belly was aching from tight trousers. New look sale mat jeans and some jeggings which come up to by boobs oh yeah and some giant pants as i was fed up with them rolling down. On the whole i am now extremely comfy although am trying to keep it quiet from dd 8 who asked me if i would be joining weight watchers soon.

umf · 15/07/2010 14:50

I've had this during the first trimester of both pgs. You just have to go with it and try to choose reasonably sensible things. Agree with previous posters that it doesn't necessarily cause a lot of weight gain. So don't worry. Eat.

But - for me early pg sickness is really a symptom of tiredness. I didn't realise until my SiL pointed this out to me. Normally you would never associate the two. But resting and sleeping can make pg sickness much better.

Even now in 2nd trimester I'm having a resurgence of the sickness because very busy and stressed.

There are also more medications available now. Next time I'll get some, even though I don't vomit much, just to feel less rotten and be able to work.

Madasajarofwasps · 15/07/2010 16:21

Nearly 7 weeks and eating constantly - I am craving PORK PIES!!! I will be 20 stone before long !! Also crisps and chocolate on top on my normal healthier things. If I don't eat I feel terrible so I am just going with for now.

nagoo · 15/07/2010 16:38

I just ate. And much worse crap than your healthy regime!

Last time I put on over 4st! But I did lose it again fairly quickly, and was skinnier than I was at 18 when he was a year old. IMO the benefits of breastfeeding cannot be overstated for those that like belgian buns!

birdofthenorth · 15/07/2010 16:40

I was the same in early preg -sick and STARVING simultaneously! Your choices seem healthy to me (even French Fries are low cal and low sats fats) so keep eating and don't worry!

I ate heaps in the first trimester but didn't put on weight then -think you must burn off energy feeling so poorly!!!
