When did head engage for baby No 2

With my first baby the head was engaged about 34 weeks. I'm pretty sure it went in with a big clunk during a longish walk! The midwife confirmed what had happened. I went on to deliver at about 39 weeks.

Anyway, 3 or so years on, I'm now 37+ weeks and the head is not engaged yet. Although I think it moves up and down as some days it is more difficult to walk and I can feel like the baby is about to drop out!

Anyway, even though with first baby the head was engaged for 5 weeks, with this one could it really go in at the last minute? What are other people's experience?

Thanks.

PS I admit that it is DOING MY HEAD IN that I'm so close but I don't actually know 'when' things will kick in. It's so difficult not to compare to my previous experience!

am in same position.

With ds he was engaged around 34 weeks.

Am now 37 1/2 weeks and this one still hasn't but I keep getting pains like it's trying and never quite suceeds.

HAve heard though that second or subsequent babies may not engage until labour as the stomach muscles are weaker and don't push them as hard.

Thats what I'm hoping is hte case anyway.

Re your PS - that is exactly how I feel

DS born at 37+6 and I kind of had that in my head as the due date for this one. I am now 39+1 and just want her out!

I heard the head can engage at the last minute with subsequent pregnancies. Be interested to know if it's true.

Diggingintheribs - I imagine you already feel about a week overdue?

TheArmadillo - Yeah I've heard this too and I was wondering how common it is.

Yes! not sure I can face another 3 weeks but this one doesn't seem too keen to come out. Have tried a few of the old wives tales but no joy!

For the past 2 weeks has been 4/5 engaged. Midwife did say that if fully engaged I would be wise to stay close to home so I guess that implies it does happen quicker with a second.

Hope we get a definitive answer soon!!
