Hello. Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the results from the blood tests you have at your first booking appointment? And do they ring you if anything is wrong? I had my bloods taken last thursday and i forgot to ask. Thank you.

I've got a feeling my m/w just told me the results at my next appt. Don't think they phone you unless there is anything amiss.

I was never given mine and had to ask my midwife to chase them -which she did happily, but also said no news is good news and that they would have contacted me if something amiss had come up

I got a letter through - my MW told us that if there was anything wrong they'd phone you ASAP (within 7 days usually). Otherwise they send you a letter to keep in your records - this arrived quite quickly too (within a fortnight). Maybe the lab wasn't busy when I had mine done!!

I forgot about mine entirely and asked at my 16 week appointment (when they took bloods for something else). The results were just in my file. Because there was nothing untoward or of concern (just checking my blood group, immunity to certain things, hiv status etc), the results were filed for future reference.

The tests for neural defects risks etc they send a letter to your house as soon as the results are ready.

I was told to phone after two weeks. I imagine they'd call you though if they found anything amiss.

You should chase them before 12 weeks because if you're Rhesus negative and have bleeding or an injury after 12 weeks you have to do in for an injection.

I got my GP to check my blood group and then my midwife had the other results at my 16 week appointment.
