Have my 20 week scan on Wednesday, but also received another letter saying that I need a scan at 28 week due to high level of beta hCG? should i be worried?

I already have a 27 month old who was born healthy. I am 37 years old, so am wondering if its to do with my age. Cant stop worrying about it

Call your community midwife and she can help.

Have you been very very sick?

when were these bloods taken?

have they said what a high level of hCG can mean? i.e. why do they need to scan you again? Usually, when there are "risks" of problems, there are other things in the blood too, i.e. I dont know if a high hCG level on its own means anything is wrong.

I have high risk of Downs, but that was due to a combination of levels of things in the blood (altho I have no idea what. Alphafeta proteins or something).
But the scan showed no soft markers, despite the risk. Hopefully all is fine with me, and with you. PS I am nearly 37, so it may well be an age thing (our risk of genetic problems is already higher - maybe this has something to do with it?)

I didn't know they checked your hcg levels in later pregnancy.

Could you call up & speak to a midwife?

serendipity, I think it's just part of the blood test for Downs/spina bifida risk - I dont think theyre checked as a matter of course.
