Prenatal vitamins

I just wondered if anyone has had problems with any prenatal vitamins that they took?

I used the Sanatogen ones during my previous pregnancy with no problems, but bought the Pregnacare ones this time as they were on special offer. I've felt a bit weird the last few times that I've taken them and just wondered if anyone else had experienced this? I've had stomach cramps and just a general sort of upset stomach feeling. I have been taking them as directed, i.e. with my main meal, not on an empty stomach. I've stopped taking them now and am back to Sanatogen, which I seem to be fine with.

Hope I'm not just weird!

It's not just you - your post has reminded me that the only time I was sick in the early weeks (sorry for that detail!) was when, half asleep, I took Pregnacare on an empty stomach. I'm sure that's what did it. They seem quite strong and taste pretty awful. I changed, too. Hope your pregnancy is going well.

Pregnacare made me feel incredibly sick; and a quick google confirmed I was not alone in this. The fact that they were overpriced as well made me go for supermarket folic acid instead.

Thanks for your replies! I'm glad it's not just me, but not so glad that other people had this too.

I'm doing fine thanks christina1971, nausea and tiredness aside. It's amazing how you forget what the early stages are like!

Think I'll stick to my cheapies from now on too LittleSilver!

Can I also ask - did everyone stop taking the vitamins at 12 weeks, or keep going? I am currently 14 weeks and just taking them occasionally... not ideal!

LittleNutTree · 12/07/2010 18:25

I took them all through my pregnancy last time, and through the first months of bf too notjustalawyer.

Thanks LNT, I might just go back to taking them daily until I can speak to my midwife.

I'm taking them still at 30 wks having started when TTC, I prefer to take a natural source vitamin, I use one by Solgar which is from a healthfood store. It isn't expensive. I plan to take it through breast feeding also. The NHS now rec vitamin D, and DHA is worth looking into also. I never take vitamins on an empty stomach or I'll feel sick.
