DD dry when no pants on but 100% accidents otherwise ...

Please help, I don't quite know what to do!

DD decided to start potty training herself during that hot week we had a couple of weeks ago. She was in the garden naked and I already have a potty for another child so it was out, and she started using it for wees no problem.

She has only ever had a couple of wee accidents when she's got no pants/trousers on, but the second I put pants on her (or even a skirt!) she makes no attempt to use the potty. She always takes herself to the potty if she's naked and she's never told me that she needs to go - she doesn't tell me when she has pants on either.

There's absolutely no way that I can get her to stay on the potty if I put her there, me dictating to her when to go is totally out of the question.

So - how long should I keep putting her in pants before I admit defeat?

Also, she hasn't managed a single poo in the potty yet, although she always comes to find me as soon as she's done one to show me where it is! If she has pants on then she won't tell me. It is clear that she thinks pants are the same as a nappy. Should I just assume that she's not ready for potty training and try again later?

I'm marking this thread because I am having the exact same problem. DH brilliant with wees only if he is wearing nothing on the lower half. As soon as pants go on, he forgets.

Disasterous on the poo front - he either does it outside (yes, like a puppy!) or waits until pants are on to do them in there.

I ment DS2, DH is potty trained quite well.

oh gosh, sorry no words of wisdom on potty training but your DH typo has really made me laugh!

I think if you continue with bare at home and put her in trainer pants to go out, or pull-ups. Until she can tell you to help her with her clothing, and is willing to do so, there is little point in trying to completely train. Also she is still not happy to poo in the potty. Using the potty is still a novelty, as she can manage on her own when pantless, but if wearing clothes is confusing I'd ease up.

I managed to get her to wee on demand this morning before going out, then she had one accident there but once I took her pants off she weed three times in the potty on her own. This is a massive improvement on last week where she was 100% wet whilst at playgroup so at least there's some progress.

The pants is definitely a confusion thing as she's perfectly capable of telling me if she needs the potty but she hates me helping her with anything so she doesn't bother. She is young but I believe she should be capable of taking her pants off, she has good control of her bladder (often gets off the sofa and walks all the way outside to wee in her outside potty) so she would have time to take a few moments taking them off.

She pood on the patio but came and got me to show me - that's got to be something positive right??! She seems to be doing it in the same area every time as well Sofaqueen so I'm going to put another potty there in case she feels the need to sit on it next time .

She clearly has the control, you could try bribary with some chocolate buttons.
