I'm in a similar boat... My daughter is 3 next month and has been potty trained for about 6 months now, and very rarely has a wet accident, but she is still pooing in her pants too. You can talk to her about and she will tell you she needs to poo in the toilet but is still pooing in her pants! Don't know what else to try... any advice would be much appreciated :-)

We are having similar problems - sorry if you were hoping this message was an answer! Our 3 & a half year old son has been dry for 6 months, but still has a nappy at night. he often poos in this first thing in the morning. Otherwise, he holds it & although I ask him (& am sure he needs a poo) he always says he doesn't & then we get accidents in his pants. On the few occasions he has produced a poo in a potty we have given him loads of priase & rewards, but it has been several weeks now since he has managed to use a potty. We are really struggling as to the next move - he understands fully about it all but it is not happening. He keeps saying he will do a poo in his potty tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes! Help, anyone, please?! Thank you!!

I did a thread on this a few weeks ago.

My ds (touch wood!!!) seems to be responding really well to a reward chart. Any use?

Have you checked out if he has chronic constipation? If he's withholding, this may be the case & he no longer has full control of his bowel as it's stretched. My oldest son has this, very common with boys. I didn't find the gp had any clue, we see a paed about it.

We had a treat bag that is on full display with kinder eggs, lollipops and magic stars in-things ds loves but isnt usually allowed. Every time he poo'd on the potty/toilet he got to choose one. As bag was on display he'd often ask for one and I'd say 'When you poo on the potty'. If he did poo in his pants I'd empty it into the potty and say 'You could have had a treat if you'd poo'd on the potty'.

At the same time as this we also started reading 'Poo goes home to pooland' to him, and within 2 days he was pooing on the potty/toilet. Fingers crossed he hasnt had a poo accident since!
