My 2yr 10m son trained in February straight onto the toilet bypassing potty, easy peasy within 10 days and totally reliable since almost every night too, - except..

when it comes to poo, half the time he will start doing it in his pants and then when sat on the loo nothing happens - then later he'll have another go - in his pants again, so we get through four or five pairs until i finally 'catch' him at the right time and he finishes the job so to speak on the loo!

so it would seem that he's not properly trained yet for poos although he does get it absolutely right half the time and knows he's done it right, very pleased with himself etc.

he was never particularly regular, only going once a week since he was a baby, but strangely this seemed to improve when he started going on the loo, to almost every other day liked he prefered to go that way.

anyone got any clues how to get this last bit of training nailed?

Bump! I think you have a clone of my DS. Awaiting replies with interest - and a bit of desperation!

Sympathy to you! It will come, be patient! One day he'll suddenly get it. Maybe someone elase will come along with useful tips but I don't think there's anything you can do, really, just be patient.

I potty trained DS at a slightly younger age and he attempted one poo which went wrong (stood up straight away, leading to poo all over carpet - bless him, despite our cool reactions he was traumatised!). After that it was a couple of months before he attempted it again so we had the frustration of daily pooey clothing. Then suddenly: BINGO!

If you want to feel that you're doing something, you could always try rewards - make a sticker chart (with prize at end) or a Smartie after every successful poo...

Best of luck!
