DS wees in the potty but poos in his pants

Every poo for 2 weeks has been in his pants. Hardly ever has a wee accident.

Started potty training about 6 weeks ago and when he started, the poos were all being done in the potty too, but has since regressed.

I know it is fairly common for boys to have trouble with poos, but can anyone give me some tips and some advice about what to expect?

I have an older DS but he trained within 1 week day and night and had barely one accident the whole time (he is now 7).

I think this is realy common. Certainly had this issue with dd2. HV told me that pooing in the loo/potty is such a hugely different sensation compared to pooing in a nappy that it takers a while. Apparently this is less of an issue than weeing. I'm sure you're doing loads of praise and fuss whenever he does anything in the toilet/potty and no fuss, negative comment or punishment for pooey pants. I used to say to dd 'nevermind lets get you washed and change the subject completely, even whilst washing. I guess then more attention is given to weeing/pooing in the right place and no fuss to pooing in the wrong place. I also bought cheap pants from tesco/asda so I didn't need to keep washing pooey pants and could just throw them.

hi my 6yr when i was potty trainning him had a big problem with the fact of pooing on the pot at the time i was living with my parents who i moved back in with when he was 16 mth old, he hated the smell of it and the look of it he was embarassed to poo in public even if it was his grand parents. so what my dad said to him was every time you poo on the pot i will give you a mini egg which was his fav sweet so the deal was made and he started pooing and even to this day mini eggs are now known in our family as poo eggs. so dont worry your little one will sort it out in the end its just the case of not making to big of a deal about it in the pants but go mad with excitment when it hits the potty. i have then pleasure of going back through it for the 3rd time now with my 2yr old

Thanks for the words of advice and reassurance. Weirdly DS did a poo in the toilet at someone elses house today! Not done that for ages. So yes, did make lots of fuss over him!
