my dd is 20 months and for past few weeks she has been coming upto me and dp upset and patting her nappie and thats before shes done anything. Then we find not long after she has done that we find shes done a poo. Is this a sign she knows when she needs to go to toilet and if so where do i start? will appreciate any advice!

save ourself a lot f work and wait til she is begging for her nappy off
in te meantime, lots of nappy free time with no pressure

you could try getting her to sit on a potty, but don't expect mircles. She is still very little but there are children of 20 months who are able to be toilet trained.

I would absolutely take advantage of this. If you ignore it, you'll be teaching her that a nappy is the place to poo and that could come back to bite you when she's older. You can just put her on the toilet or potty when she does this for her to poo and then put her nappy back on. Eventually she'll start telling you for wees, too, and before you know it you'll have potty trained her without all the accidents.

I would probably offer her the potty or toilet if she does this

But I wouldn't be taking it as an opportunity to formally start potty-training... for me that means saying (or indicating) "I need a wee" and being able to do it mainly independently

have the potty around so she gets use to seeing it and when you change her sit her on it but dont worry if it dont happen my little one is 2 and he will wee on the loo and in a pot but still wont tell me or ask me and my daughter was 3 and we ended up saying she could have a doll if she came out of nappies
