When do we encourage wiping?

Our toddler has been potty trained since just before he turned 2. We are about 9 months in and we're transitioning away from the potty and he is mainly using the loo now with an insert seat thing and a step. He has been asking to wipe but I honestly think his arms are too short? Do you just let them pretend at this age?

How do you know he’s pretending or his arms are too short until he’s done it?

9 months in is a long time for him to have never wiped his own bum!
let him do it. You check. When he’s reliably clean you stop checking.

I have let him try today but his arms don't seem to reach round properly. I wasn't sure if there was some trick or position for toddlers?

I know its a long time. But loads of his peers aren't potty trained or are currently going through it. He isn't 3 until the end of Feb.
