Pooping in pants

We have been potty training our 2 year old for 2.5 months, he is mostly good with wee’s and will go when we take him (he doesn’t tell us he needs to go yet) and doesn’t have many accidents. Poop is a different story, when we first started he would tell us he needs to poop and would go in the potty. Now he just poops in his pants 90% of the time, we have tried everything. Sitting him on potty after meals, sticker charts, chocolate buttons, rewards. I honestly don’t know what to do anymore, it’s like he doesn’t care at all and will happily walk around with poo in his pants. Help!!

Yep, here too, DD now three years and nearly three months and still pooing in pants! Driving me nuts although obviously I am patient and calm and encouraging around her!

How long has she been potty trained for? I’m praying it doesn’t last that long

Are they sitting on the potty and relaxing so they can poo? With my DS we had to pick a time he often had a poo in his nappy, late afternoon, and make it a routine that he got to sit on the potty and watch 1 episode of a TV show on the iPad. This got him in the way of staying there long enough to go. Once it became a normal routine he didn’t need the iPad any more and he would just go.

He poos at different times of the day so it’s difficult to know, but when I think he needs one I will sit him on it (he will sit there happily for a while if he has tv on etc) but it’s not always possible as he goes to nursery too

Since around march! It is really frustrating and like your DS she doesn’t poo at a certain time of day. I am sure she holds them in and so they ooze out over the course of a day too which means it’s a) messy and b) frequent!

Unfortunately her older brother was the same, and I just had to wait for him to grow out of it but it was a long old road. He finally started pooing on the toilet at around three and a half but it was maybe another year before he was reliably not having accidents, I was very worried when he started school last September but he’s only ever had one accident there (quite a few at home!) so hopefully that will be the case for DD.
