Is frequent weeing normal when starting potty training?

Just started potty training our 2.5yr old today and am a bit taken aback by the frequency of her wees…she’s done at least 12 between 9am and 4pm (some on potty, some accidents/on floor). During that time she’s drunk two bottles of water (so around 700ml total) which is pretty usual for her. Sometimes she’s doing wees only about 20mins apart. Google seems to think toddlers should only urinate every few hours?? I don’t remember it being this constant with our eldest, have others found potty training has made their toddler go little and often…?

Yes it's normal, she has never had to learn to hold it before.

Once she is getting a lot of successes you can start extending the time between toilet trips.

Very normal. Up until now you have had no idea how often she has gone for a wee. You might change her nappy at 7am, check again at 10am oh it's full - but she hasn't just done 1 big wee, she'll have done lots of small wees over the last 3 hours.

Once they potty train that's when they learn to hold it for a few hours. Before that they have had no reason to hold it, so they do lots of little wees all day long, but we often don't even realise. So google is right in saying they can hold it, but that's only after they learn to hold it, and most toddlers don't learn to hold it while still in nappies as there is no reason to.
