Potty training, blood in knickers and hardly any wees in 24 hours

Hoping someone has had a similar experience and can help/advise.
my daughter is 2 and 5 months and a week ago we started potty training. She took to it amazingly and has not had one accident. But we noticed she was only weeing 2/3 times a day but they were big wees and she was not in any discomfort so we weren’t concerned. However 2 days ago we noticed bloody discharged in her knickers and took her to the walk in centre where they gave her 3 days of antibiotics. Although today, she has not had one single wee. For context it is 7:10pm and she last had a wee at 10pm last night. So almost 24 hours. Her nappies have been dry overnight since potty training also. She has been sitting on and off the potty but saying no doesn’t want it and walking away. She is not in any pain and is her usual self doesn’t seem bothered. I’m bedside myself 🫠🫠

How much is she drinking?

Oliwiaa · Yesterday 19:14

I think you need to call 111 if she hasn't weed in 24 hours.

Balloonhearts · Yesterday 19:14

Is she taking in fluids? Honestly, I'd have her up A&E, that's not normal and I'd worry about her kidney function.

A&E

I'd advise you get her seen tonight and urgently. If you can get through to nhs 24 and get an appointment do that, but honestly I'd say you really need to think about going to a and e. Fresh red blood in urine isn't a common sign of a simple uti but it can be a sign of problems in the kidneys.

In the mean time encourage her to drink drink drink, and if she does pee, get a sample to bring in. Hopefully it's nothing except a bit of dehydration but there's a lot of red flags in that story that I'd suggest getting her checked.

My daughter had this when she potty training she was holding her weeIy when we out. we didn’t have any bloody discharge tho but we had a nasty urine infection - I’d phone 111 - I hope she’s ok 👌

You definitely need to seek medical advice. I'd probably ring 111 myself.

Has she been drinking much?

Rainbowdust1993 · Yesterday 22:40

@Oliwiaa Shes drank normally! I’ve worked out about 600ml today give or take a little.

@Balloonhearts @IwillrunIwillfly @happysinglemama Thank you! I am a nurse myself so I am aware but she has been absolutely fine in herself otherwise. She was seen Wednesday night and was given 3 days worth of trimethroprim, but today has not been good and I just didn’t understand if it was the UTI or a common potty training issue that girls possibly have. She had a wee finally about 8pm and after that she was just upset saying she needed a wee but couldn’t, she was on and off the toilet getting upset and holding her down below, so I definitely think it’s the UTI! I’ve gave her her next dose of antibiotics and some pain relief and she’s fast asleep and my plan is to take her tomorrow and get her checked again.

@Besidemyselfwithworry Thanks so much this is what I think it is, can I ask did she get it when she was first potty training? And did she get one again after ? I’m just worried she’s going to have a constant UTI if she keeps holding

@Rainbowdust1993

so now she’s 10 she told me when she was about 5-6 why she did this
she didn’t like going for. Wee if we went out as there was no inner child seat and she worried about falling down the toilet and she didn’t like the noise of hand dryers!!

wd had 2-3 UTI’s but then I said to her about having a poorly tummy and said mummy will get some prizes so I used to give her little treats when she managed a wee and she soon mastered it but it is very stressful at the time.

Rainbowdust1993 · Yesterday 23:01

@Besidemyselfwithworry thank you I honestly don’t feel it’s anything psychological with her as we have a travel potty we take everywhere and she’s more than happy to wee on normal toilets as she’s obsessed with washing her hands! But I feel because she understands not to wee in her knickers she’s holding it if that makes sense! Honestly they are a worry 😂

You used to be able to buy these kids size pantyliner type things to go in pants - I’m not sure they’re available now as I’ve not been buying that sort of thing for years but I wonder if she had a “safety net” if that would help??

I have just done a search still on Amazon but out of stock - I’ve attached a photo of the packaging but not sure how long it takes to be authorised
