5yo dry at night in nappies, wet without nappy

My son has mainly been dry for months overnight with his nappy. I'd say he had a wet nappy once every 1-2 weeks. I told him when he went 2 weeks solid without a wet nappy, we would get rid of the nappies altogether. This has now happened but he has wet himself every night since.

Any thoughts? Does it just take getting used to no longer wearing a nappy a night?

It's a confidence issue, Knowing he has the safety net of a nappy means he's under less pressure, so is fully relaxed.

Removing the nappy is a big change, so he's worrying about wetting, then doing it.

Thanks that makes sense. He was dry last night so hopefully we will get there soon 😃

I think it’s so interesting - I’ve had 2 kids that were late night wetters, have used alarms and medication etc. You’ll read on Mn there’s nothing you can do, it’s all hormonal, but as in your case, there’s definitely a psychological element. One of mine was dry for months after using an alarm, then started to wet again regularly. She had a sleepover planned and I said we’d need to use the alarm again to help train her brain to be ready for that. Poof, dry again.

Has he said how he feels about nappy vs no nappy? Might be hard for him to articulate at that age.
