Nearly 3...no recognition of pooing, thinks toilet is a game

My daughter will be three in December. She is bright - understands loads, communicates clearly and seems to be ahead of the curve on most things bar toilet training..

We tried two months ago after the nursery kept telling us she kept asking to go to the toilet. So we bunkered down over the weekend and took her to the toilet every half hour and followed every piece of advice. It was a nightmare. It was clear she just thought going to the toilet was a game. She'd sit on the toilet for two seconds and go finished!!! And then go and pee/poop all over the floor. We tried to encourage her to stay on the loo a bit longer but it became a battle. She screamed every time the toilet alarm went off and didn't want to go. After two full days of pretty much 0 success we said we couldnt send her back to nursery like this so we gave up and decided she wasn't ready.

We are prepping to try again but she still doesn't seem to be showing any signs, she never seems to notice when she's pooped and would happily sit in it for hours on end. Let alone when she pees.
She still asks to go to the toilet and then just sits on it and then gets off....

I don't get it as by all feedback she seems really bright and follows instructions easily. She just doesn't seem to have the sensory input to know when she needs the toilet - or feel uncomfortable with it (we tried just putting her in knickers so she'd feel uncomfortable but didnt bother her at all).

Any advice on how to get her trained? Id really like it before her third birthday.
