Is your child ready for potty training at nursery? Here's the place for all your toilet training questions.

Is there any light at the end of this (dark, smelly) tunnel? 😬

DS is 4 in December. He’s been “trained” since last November: at first we had a number of accidents which I’d expected of course but nearly a year later and accidents are still pretty much a daily feature of our lives. Sometimes he will go a day without but then other days he will have two or three so it probably all balances out.

The big problem is that he just won’t articulate a need to go - will just do it in his pants without being told to go. Obviously with wee we can mostly preempt that but not always and poo is a nightmare.

As the months go by the hope of him self instigating ‘I need a wee’ or going himself or fading and I am a bit worried about how this might impact him at school, although it’s a year off.

We also aren’t even close to being dry at night. I know that’s hormonal and wouldn’t worry me if it wasn’t for the fact day time is still very hit and miss.

Has anyone else come through this? I feel a bit alone and in all honesty embarrassed as most children DS’s age I know are very reliable and independent with toileting matters.

If he won't toilet rain very well, try toilet timing which just means trying to go at set times. There are some good books for training. Unfortunately sometimes boys don't care about being clean. Could try star chart and bribery.
