We've been trying to potty trian my 2 year 4 month old and he had been doing really well

I've been of work for 2 months due to personal reasons so I've been at home with him and letting him be without his pants and nappy

He he brilliant at telling me he needs wee / poo without pants on and he will go straight to the potty and even the toilet (we have a little seat) and he is so proud and pleased with himself when he does his business

I've been trying him bow with pants and trousers on but he just won't tell me when he needs a wee. I ask him regularly and he will tell me he does not need a wee , and then a few minutes later he will wee his pants . I bring him to his potty and take his pants down and he will either do a wee or say 'no wee wee mummy ' so he knows exactly what he is doing

How do I get to the next step with actually being able to dress him and getting him to use the potty / toilet?

Any advice appreciated (this is my 1st child so I'm all new to this)

I trained mine and all the children I was childminding from the start with clothes on. They need to be able to feel the wetness/ pooh to link it together. I would continue with him wearing pants and trousers and not naked yes you will have a few accidents but hopefully not too many as you say he was asking before so should quickly be back to asking.

He might be too young? My son did not get it until about 3 years and a few months and still having accidents until about 4.

@Apple40 thank you. Going to do this from tomorrow to see how it goes as he does tell me when he's wet and he doesn't like it

Definitely second just going for it with clothes & hopefully they'll soon get used to asking /going & accidents will get rarer. We did this with both of ours (boy & girl) and worked well for us. Good luck!
