Oh Crap method or straight to underwear for child in nursery

My daughter is 27 months and we’re planning to give potty training a second go in July. We tried the Oh Crap method at Christmas as my daughter had said she wanted to use the toilet and had started getting upset during nappy changes, and had a couple of successful self-initiated wees and a couple of pops on the potty and toilet but loads more accidents. As we had never planned to train that early, and she was going back to nursery, we decided to stop and go back to nappies.

We are going to take her out of nursery to have a week in July for a second go but I’m not sure about whether to try the Oh Crap method again or to go straight to underwear given that she’ll need to wear underwear for nursery.

Any advice? x

I think Oh Crap massively complicates things. I don't really understand the no underwear part of it. We put ours in pants and leggings and I put her on the potty every 2 hours. After a few days I let her tell me when she needed to go. She didn't ever have more than a couple of accidents and was totally dry within about a week, although struggled with poos sometimes for a couple more weeks. She was not long turned 2 at the time.

We never did the no underwear thing, I don't know if it's different for boys.
We started off with pull up pants and every time he needed the potty/toilet he would say. He had a few accidents but it was nursery who suggested having him in undies during the day. For some reason this worked brilliantly, first day he had one accident but after that we had no accidents. He's been toilet trained for over a year now. Unfortunately night time is a completely different story.
If your nursery is willing to help then maybe use them too rather than taking a week off.
Good luck, hope it works either way you tackle it 😊

Yes, after our first attempt, I lost a bit of faith in the Oh Crap method to be honest - it’s just that it’s so highly rated and people make it sound so easy! My daughter walked herself to the potty, sat down to wee and got up when finished on two occasions when we were trying before so I felt she was totally able but the Oh Crap method made it a bit of a power struggle and she’s quite stubborn…

Re the week off, I guess it’s just us making sure she is ready rather than sending her into nursery to potentially have 5 outfit changes! We’ve let them know though and asked them to encourage her to let them know when she has peed/or needs to pee as a starting point (she will already give us warning when she needs to poo, and asks for a private space to do so)

Thanks for the advice and good luck 😊 x

We did the no underwear both times. DS who was 3.5yo did well first say, terribly second day and never had an accident after that and was dry day and night. He was in pants day 5 onwards

DD who is 2.5yo started yesterday. Left nappy off and one accident all day. No accidents today. The no underwear really worked for her. She won’t pee on the floor so went straight for potty with no nappy.

Honestly if they’re ready I think it’s easy and by day 4 accidents should be very rare and if they’re not why bother. I hate potty training though would quite happily leave them in nappies forever.

Just a quick bump for any other advice before we start!
