Can't get my son to poo on the potty

My son has done so well over the past couple of weeks. When he doesnt have pants on he will take himself over to the potty and do pees and poos. And for the last week we have done really well with going for a pee on the potty. However, I can't get him to not poo in his pants.
Does anyone have any tips? xx

Read the Oh Crap method. They suggest not using pants as they feel too similar to nappies and encourage accidents. Dd goes commando and so far (touch wood) no accidents yet.

We had a couple of books Pirate Pete and Everybody poos, and persevered until it clicked. DS preferred to hang on till night time so we’d put the potty by the bed, lights low, read one of the above books and see. Nappy on for bed because I figured I’d rather change a nappy than end up in hospital for constipation. And a treat every time - tip - pick carefully, nothing big or expensive!

My DS was similar. One of the things that helped him was not getting him to sit on the potty, but sitting with him on the toilet. I would sit right at the back behind him and do this at times he tended to go (after meals was a typical trigger!) and take one of his favourite storybooks and read to him. It was kind of hit and miss at first, but worked in the end, and at least he sat there as opposed to the potty

Bribery! We got there in the end by giving a marshmallow (and lots of praise) for toilet/potty poo's

Bribery worked for us. We chose the thing ds desired the most at the time (Fruit Shoots) and he had one for every poo on the potty or toilet.

We later downgraded to one Haribo per poo just to keep him interested.

We kept putting the poop in the potty. So when he went in his pants, we popped the poop in the potty and let him look at it etc and the flush it away. We just kept repeating that poop goes in the potty and eventually it stuck! Also milky bar buttons...

^ yes to keep flushing it away regardless. Good luck, it wasn’t awful but it took a few weeks. Looking back I think he wasn’t ready but it’s so hard. I found at the same time you can’t really train at night either - it’s not a behaviour, it’s biological and they either make enough of the right hormone and will have dry nappies in the morning or their bodies need to catch up.
