Almost 4 Yr old won't poop on toilet

Hi all, my son will be 4 in the next few weeks and has been toilet trained for almost a year, hardly any accidents now only the odd one here and there, however he will not poop OK the toilet,

We've tried rewarding him, trying to get him just to sit on the toilet with a nappy on, standing by the toilet with a nappy on, but it just ends in a melt down, I'm totally lost and worried that he's going to school in September.

I appreciate every child is different and I expect he'll do it in his own time but I don't want him going to school in nappies, saying that he would hold it all day until he got home,

Should I just say right that's it no more nappies or should I continue to persuade him to sit on the toilet with a nappy on

I am in exactly the same position! Son almost 4, potty trained for wee for over a year. Absolutely refuses to poo. He knows the potty book off by heart but will not apply it to himself. I have no suggestions unfortunately. We've actually decided to defer starting school until he's 5 (summer-born) partially due to this issue. You have my sympathy x

I did think about deferring school for another year as my boy is summer born to, but he keeps asking to go and he'll have some Friends from nursery to go with, hopefully they'll both be using the toilet soon x

Omg I thought my dd was the only one, also in the same position 4 soon. She holds it in from preschool, well her routine since 1years old has just been to do it once she’s back home from nursery.

I wouldn’t defer just because of this @MummyBear2352 my daughter is thriving at a preschool it doesn’t really effect anything apart from I have to clean her up and it seems babyish

My DD isn't 4 until September so we've got another year until full time school and I'm hoping she will come round by then.

She has very recently started going on the toilet maybe once a week for a poo. It wasn't something we've massively pushed, we've always said "oh you should've tried doing this on the toilet then it wouldn't feel so yucky on your bum"

She's definitely not ready to be dry overnight yet though so still wears pull ups. She's been Day time potty trained since 2.5 years so well over a year.

This is going to sound awful but THANK GOD!! there are other people experiencing this too, My DD is 4 next week and still wont poo on the toilet. Have tried everything and she knows full well where she needs to poo. If I dont let her have a pull up she holds her poo in for hours and days. Exhausting! Im expecting baby number in December so really want to nip this is the bud soon. Like yours @Ems137 she is dry in the day and almost never had a nighttime accident so i, at my wits end now!!
