Why is Ds not trained at home? But is at preschool/out and about?

Ds (turned 3 in August) (apparently) had to be potty trained for preschool which he started in September. So we started training him in August and he was doing ok.

He hasn't yet had an accident at preschool.
When out and about he tells me he needs to use the toilet and we take him. Doesn't have accidents when out.

But at home he has accident after accident.
He does use the toilet without my promoting something, I'm also constantly asking him if he needs to go, forcing him to go if it's been a while etc but yet he still has at least one accident a day, but usually more like 3 a day.

I picked him up from preschool today at 11.30. Got in, told him straight away to go for a wee and he did. Then told him again an hour later, but he had already wet himself before he got to toilet and then an hour later he's wet himself again.

Any ideas how I can help him?

I thought maybe he was getting too engrossed with playing at home but surely it'd be the same at preschool?
