Help! Son knows when he needs to go but doesn't want to sit on potty!

I'm after some advice. I think my 27 month old son is ready for potty training. He often tells me before he needs to do a wee or poo, but then won't do it on the potty (or refuses to sit down altogether) and pees/poos on the floor minutes later! It's like he just doesn't want to do it (wee/poo) sitting on the potty.

Classic example from earlier today: He tells me he needs the potty (I could also tell from his behaviour that he needed a poo), but refuses to sit down on potty for more than one second. Then a minute later he poos on the floor next to the potty.

Why doesn't he just do it on the potty?!? I've tried everything: Telling him he is a big boy, letting him watch telly on the potty (this just distracts him I think) and bribery (with chocolate which he loves!).

I guess people will tell me it's too early and he's not ready yet, but I feel like he is ready, as he is able to tell me that he needs to go! He also doesn't go when in the car/buggy/when he naps, which suggests he has good control.

Any advice to get him to "like" the potty? Thanks!

quite normal
follow him round and catch it (in the potty Grin)
eventually he'll get it
this isn't recommended btw
worked for me

my son was the same was terrified of it. for start I just left it in the room then with his nappy on got his to sit on it to play etc so he's used to sitting on it then slowly tried taking his nappy off and doing massive cheers and clapping when he sat on it. I also got some steps with a child seat from Argos to put on the toilet and said ok no potty today how about you climb up this taaaal step and wee wee in the biiig big toilet? make it a game and just perserver my son was awful then after a few weeks just suddnely did it all by himself
