I don't want to put him off but I don't think he's ready...

... and the constant requests to sit on the potty are beginning to drive me a bit barmy.
My son is 25mths and has become obsessed with sitting on the potty. He wants to do it all the time but also seems to mention it after he's done a wee in his nappy.
At first I thought it was sweet and still remain encouraging as I don't want to put him off, but he will literally sit for ages without doing anything, hop off to wash his hands and then go back again for another sit on the loo. It's become a bit of a game for him.
What can I do to encourage him without having to spend the morning/afternoon sat on the toilet floor watching him hop from sink to loo and vice versa? Or am I wrong and is he ready to potty train. The only sign I've had is the request for potty after a wet nappy and that isn't consistent.

Take his nappy off?

Being keen is half the battle.

He is old enough to be physically ready (unless he is developmentally delayed in any way?), so give it a go.

Or hide the potty.

He is old enough to start if he wants to, seems a shame to not at least try. I'd say he has the beginnings of the concept figured out already.

If you really don't think he is ready then put the potty away.

Move the potty to the livingroom? Everyone I know keeps it there in the early days so there's less distance to run when they realise they need a wee? Some handwash wet wipes or a bowl of water should do for after toilet handwash x

Hi, We gave our 20 month old son a couple of hours "nappy free" time to start with and just sat the potty in the living room just so he could get used to it. Then gradually gave him more time during the day with pants on etc. Once he had used the potty a few times he recognized what it was for.
