V. Nearly 3 year old hates pooing on toilet

Hello!

I started training my son last week. Getting him to pee in a potty/toilet has been relatively stress free. He lets us know when he needs a pee and on a couple of occasions has gone and had a pee by himself and told me afterwards. Brilliant.

However, having a poo on the potty/toilet is a whole new ball game. I know he wants a poo as he tells me he wants his nappy on. I used this clue to put him on the toilet but he screams and cries and wriggles off. He gets himself in such a state (despite lots of cuddles and reassurances from me) that he doesn't want to go.

Has anyone got any experience of this and any tips? I would be very grateful!

My DS was exactly like this. I googled for an answer and came across 'Poo goes to pooland'. It really helped him reading it every day. Look it up.

My ds wouldn't poo on the loo until he was 4. If I tried to insist, he just got hideously constipated. So I just put a nappy on him when he wanted to poo, and waited. He sorted it out for himself in time. He is 13 and still remembers how scared he was of pooling in the loo, but can't remember why.

My DS took to potty training very quickly with regards to peeing. Relatively few accidents, even overnight. However, he pooped himself almost daily for about 6 months. Eventually bribery with marshmallows (and the extra 6 months maturity) helped him to turn things around.
