Not sure if my 17 month daughter is ready or not?

Our daughter has started showing these signs, not sure if she is ready:

  • Pushing down her nappy when going for a wee.
  • Tugs of our trousers to let us know when she has done a wee (not all the time though).
  • Sits down to go for a wee in her nappy on.
  • Holds her bits when she wants to go for a wee without a nappy on before bath time.

Our daughter hasn't learnt to say wee or poo as of yet, bit to early at this age. But unsure if these are signs she is telling us that she is ready or not?

It's very young, but they're all signs of readiness. Does she go away somewhere private (under the table/behind the sofa) to do a poo? Does she tell you when she's done a poo?

Can she pull up/down her trousers?

I know 17 months is very young, but she has been doing this for about a week or 2, its my first child, need a little guidance in knowing if she is ready or not.

She does normally squat down when she is doing a poo & normally we have a ball pool, she normally goes in there (not all the time though).

She looks for comfort after she has done a poo, normally comes sits next to us or wants our attention. So yes kind of grabbing our attention.

She can pull down her nappy no problems, but trys to pull down her trousers but cant.

It sounds like she's very nearly ready. I would wait a month or so until she is reliably telling you when she's been and can manage her clothes. Although if you wanted to start immediately she would probably be ok. I'd just wait a little longer to make absolutely sure/make it as smooth a process as possible.

Maybe switch to pull-Ups for the next few weeks and sew how she gets on.

Does she wee on the potty if you sit her on there? If she hasn't sat on the potty before start sitting her on first thing and before bath time. See how she goes.

I would put on toilet at each nappy change. Ds1 was dry at 16 months, ds2 at 20 months.

Thankyou all. We will more than likely hold off for the moment. We have bought a potty but not tryed indroduce it to her yet, until we are sure she is ready. x

We potty trained dd at 18 months and she was totally reliable from the start. Like your DD, she was showing all the sings, we cracked out the potty and followed her lead worked really well.
