My son was potty trained quickly at 20 months. He was clean and dry with only the occasional wee accident (never poo) when deep in play or over tired. Wore nappies at night and for nap time. His nap time nappy was sometimes dry.
About two weeks before baby #2 arrived in September, so around his second birthday, he started to have more accidents. At first it was only at home, but then also out. Got gradually worse and fast forward to now when he basically wees without any attempt to go to the potty, won't really engage when I try and talk to him about it (eg ask him does he need to go etc) and whenever he is asked if he needs to go says no. He usually goes to the potty / says he needs to go for a poo but just today he pooped in the bath. He didn't once have a poo accident when training (which, btw, took about a week). We have gone from him either saying he needs a wee (if out) or just taking himself to potty, to him just weeing in pants the whole time with no warning.
Sadly lots of changes happened in a short space of time; I started maternity leave, our nanny finished (when baby arrived), he started nursery two mornings a week (a monthly after baby arrived). And of course the first few months with the baby were v tough and I was v sleep deprived and not at my most patient with him generally.
I wonder whether we have fallen into the trap of asking him constantly but whichever, it is at the point where I have to do something! Tbh I have not managed the totally ignore it tactic yet - has anyone had any success with this?? Because he doesn't say anything when he's wet or appear to dislike wet pants am not sure this would work anyway..
I have tried:
Reward / bribe: this worked well for a few days then the novelty wore off / he would squeeze out a few drops to get a treat when he remembered, but not all the time.
Sticker chart: novelty wore off quickly
Taking pants off so naked at home(ie like when firs training): just wees on floor
Taking him to the loo periodically: he does not like this, will often get upset and say he doesn't need a wee / doesn't want to go. Only to wet five minutes later. Will also wet five minutes after going to the loo sometimes.
Everyone keeps saying not to go back into nappies (which I don't want to do) but am not sure what else to try.
Any advice / similar experience???
