DD very upset about accidents; refuses to go on potty

DD (2 1/2yrs) was quite keen about getting on her potty occasionally during the day and before bedtime, sometimes even without prompting. However, as soon as I tried to do some full-on potty training this summer and she had a few accidents, she's refused to continue. She gets very upset when she has an accident (made a poo in the bath the other evening and freaked out). We tell her there's nothing to worry about or be upset about and that it's OK; we're not pressuring her at all, just now occasionally asking if she'd like to go on the potty, but she always says no.

She's good about telling us when she needs a nappy change, but just won't go on the potty anymore.

Does she just need more time, or is there something we could be doing differently?

have you tried putting her on the toilet instead, like a big girl? You can buy a little seat that fits over the usual seat. She might like the idea of that.

We've got two of those, and she refuses them as well. A friend recommended a potty chair, which her girl loved, but I haven't tried that yet.

DS was very interested in the potty, but when he worked out what it was for he went off the idea. He's been scared of it for a good few months. I just leave it in the corner of the bathroom, but don't mention or encourage it. He's starting to be curious again but prefers to wear it on his head but I'm going to leave potty training until he seems really keen.

I think it would be best to wait a bit too.

Yes, that' the approach we've taken for now. But if she's still resistant in a few months, do we try to convince her, and if so, how?

I'm hoping she'll be inspired by seeing other kids her age mastering the potty (without us making it seem that she's doing something wrong by not using it yet).
