toddler too little to get on toilet even with step

My DD has been potty trained for 6 months now, but even with a step, is too small to get on the toilet without me lifting her on. I am really fed up with going up and down the stairs to take her to the toilet, whilst trying to care for a newborn (10 days). Any suggestions to enable her to get on the toilet by herself? She manages all other aspects of toileting without help. I don't like having a potty in my living room and I would still need to go and empty and clean it anyway and take DD upstairs to wash her hands, so it doesn't help much.

My DD cannot get on herself either, she's just turned 3.
It is a pain but we just use the potty downstairs and then hide it in a cupboard, wash hands in kitchen sink.

Ikea do a wooden step with 2 steps up - my DS is not quite 2 and can climb onto the toilet no problems with it and it was only cheap - £11 I think :)

Potty upstairs? Is your dd calm enough to go up there and sit on the potty and then you only need to go for occasional hand washing?

citrus DD is quite a calm child but my stairs also go up from my living room, so I can supervise her going up without needing to go with her. The toilet is at the top of the stairs and I can see in it from the living room, when the door is left open.

Thankyou for your suggestions everyone, I will get my tape measure out and decide which step will be best to try.
