DS has just turned 3 and won't poo in the potty or toilet. He never has at home but apparently did at nursery for a couple of weeks. At first he'd save it for his nappy but now he is just pooing in his pants (home and nursery). We try and do all the motivational stuff, offer bribes etc. but he just says he doesn't want to poo in the potty. I feel that if if I'd started potty training way earlier (first attempt about 2.8, then 2.10) he wouldn't have this hang-up. I have no idea when he's going to poo apart from that he does it every other day, sometimes leaving it even longer. When he was holding wee in, sitting him on the potty for long periods in front of the TV didn't work, so I can't imagine it would for poos, I think he probably just has to get over it by himself.

Not sure exactly what my purpose is in posting this - just made the mistake of reading some posts in this section from people whose children potty trained really quickly and easily. Grrr.

Ds was like this dry for wee's really quickly but took about 2 months to crack poo's. It is frustrating but I would say if all his wee's are going in the toilet then keep him in pants and persevere. He will get there it's quite a common issue

Thanks - fingers crossed. It is frustrating!

I can't help from an advice point of view as I have no idea and feel like I'm getting it all wrong myself. However, I am totally with you from a moral support way, I am also having a terrible time, and it is very hard to read stories of perfect potty trainers Sad my ds is 2.9 and not getting it (just cleared up an al fresco poo in the garden, although better that than on the carpet, I suppose Grin), he has several friends now who just got it instantly at just 2 yo and take themselves off to the loo and no longer bother their parents with their toiletting habits EnvyEnvyAngry This is the absolute worst part of parenting for me, you have my full sympathy Sad
