3yo DS wants to wear pants but won't wee in the potty

Up to now DS, who has just turned 3, has been resistant to the whole idea of potty-training (he is going through a particularly stroppy phase at the moment)!

In the last week though he has wanted to empty poos from his nappy into the loo and flush them away. He has also decided three days ago that he doesn't want to wear nappies anymore and is happily wearing pants.

However, he won't wee or poo on the potty or the loo and is merrily peeing all over the floor. It is day three now. Should we have had at least one success by now?

He has a sister who is one year older whom he often chats to when she is on the loo. We have books: Pirate Pete, etc. so he knows what is expected and when I ask him what he should do when he feels a wee coming, he says: "sit on the loo" so the understanding is there.

What would you do? Persevere (and for how much longer if he continues not to wee on the potty) or go back to nappies?

No advice but I'm on day 2 with dd who is also just 3, knows what's she should be doing but we haven't had a single wee on the potty today. We tried about 3months ago and I packed in on day 5 as I was loosing the will to live.

I'm planning on trying for longer this time, but it's hard going isn't it.

Do you put him on the potty when you think he's due or do you leave him to it. Dd says she doesn't need a wee then wets herself seconds later.
