Hi
My dd is 2.2. We have had a potty in the lounge for a few months now so it would become familiar to her. Then a few weeks ago we started giving her about an hour in the morning and same again in the evening without a nappy on and encouraged her to sit on it. In all that time she''s managed one wee and one poo and has had a couple of wees on the floor. If I try and encourage her to sit on it she says No as she is going through quite a stubborn stage. She's definitely bright enough to understand the concept, but just a bit stubborn. I was keen to potty train her this summer, however I am flying to France with her in a couple of weeks so want to wait till I'm back. However, she starts nursery three mornings a week in September which means I would be attempting to potty train her two weeks prior to starting nursery.
My husband thinks we should just go for it. However, I'm concerned if she has only been trained for one whole week before starting nursery, it could affect how she settles in there. But if I don't do it then, then when?? Once she's at nursery it will be ages till I get a clear week again. Do I just go for it, or do I put nursery first and then maybe take her out for a week later on??
Really not sure what to do at all.......
Thanks for any advice.

She's too young frankly. Unless she can tell you before she goes and AS she goes then she is not old enough. Also, she should be able to take her own clothing down and up in order to go.

She can take her own clothing up and down, so thats ok. Most of the books i've read say the ideal time is between 2 and 2.6. Both my sister's kids were potty trained at 19 months so I think the right age is specific to each individual child. I'm more concerned about the big step of going to nursery quite soon afterwards..

will nursery not help with training?

Yes I suppose they will. I suppose I thought that if she is doing both new things within two weeks it might be a bit overwhelming. So maybe I should leave it for a while and once she's settled and comfortable there, do it then and they can encourage it. Good point, thanks.
