Training pants - worth getting or waste of money

My DS has just turned 2 and is looking like he may be ready to start potty training at some point soon. I also have a deadline as in September he starts preschool and he has to be potty trained to go there. I'm thinking about what to buy but have read conflicting opinions about the use of training pants. What is your experience? Is it better just to go straight to pants? If you did use training pants was there any particular brand that you found useful? Many thanks Smile

Just use pants. They know when they have gone and they are easy to wash. I used terry training pants with DD and they were okay but the wee still leaks out so I don't see the point. Didn't bother with DS, just bought three packs of cheap Tesco pants and if they were really rank could boil wash in the machine and tumble dry to destruction.

Straight to pants. Mine treated training pants and pull ups as nappies. They were much better bare bum at home if yu can for a few days and pants put and about

Thanks. That's really helpful Smile

I tried them, but DD didn't realise she was wetting herself in them, so went with just normal pants, until she got what she was up to (took about 4 days) and now we are just using them when going out shopping etc incase she doesn't make it to the toilet in time. So I would say good for out and about after child understands the concept.

I agree. Straight to pants, but use training pants once they understand the routine but you're out somewhere that a puddle wouldn't be good! Pull ups no help at all,too much like nappies, doesn't know she's wet.

Trainer pant Brands- get cheap ones from eBay. Around £3 a pair. I've got BrightBots and some others with big bright animals on them from Hong Kong- all eBay. Get big sizes as they aren't generous.
