After a bit of advice please. DS (3 next month) suddenly decided today that he wanted to wear pants. He got on the toilet but didn't do anything. He has refused to go on the potty. We asked him to tell us when he wants to do a wee or poo and we'll take him to the toilet, but as yet, we've had 4 wees and 1 poo all all in pants and he got quite upset about. I don't want to force him to wear pull ups if he wants pants but does he sound ready to you? Is this a normal part of the process?

Many thanks

Go with it. DD did that at 2 and a bit - she'd never shown much interest in potty training beforehand. We had a week with lots of accidents, but after that she got the hang of it. Remember to praise him if he tries to get to the potty but is a bit too late. Good luck.

Oubliette0292Sun Many thanks. I will go for it then; I just don't like seeing him get upset because of it but I imagine that's part of the learning. Thanks again. We were going to do bare bottom over Christmas but looks like he's wanting to do things his way Grin

I'm marking my place as this is DS to a T. Loves his pants but just wees in them.

we've got a book called Pirate Pete's Potty which we're reading to him whenever we're in the bathroom.

He doesn't want to use the potty and wants to go straight to the toilet. While that's fine, he's nervous of sitting on the grown-up seat but he seems too big for the trainer seats (although I think I might have bought a girl's one Confused )

when we first started training we took them to the toilet regularly rather than wait for them to say they needed to go. It did take a wee while until they started telling us they needed to go to the toilet. We never did bare bottoms as you then have to retrain with clothes on

Well, we had a mini wee on the toilet this morning. 4 wees and a poo on the potty at nursery. But still won't go on toilet now he's home nor potty and got very upset when we tried to take him Sad This is such a massive developmental stage, I imagine he is exhausted.
