Is it acceptable to allow a toilet training 2 yrs old to wee outside?

My DD 2.3 is on week two of toilet training. She's doing great, however there have bee one or two occasions where I have reluctantly allowed her to wee outside e.g park ( no potette - just crouched) farm visit (used potette)
Both times I have felt terrible about it but should I? Or is it ok for her to wee outside?
I'm now a bit worried she will try weeing in the garden at nursery! I'm sure that won't be acceptable.

Yes, I think that's fair enough. I would find a bush/tree or private corner and let her wee, what else can you do? Wee in a potty you carry around and then throw the wee in the bushes?? Seems odd to me. Or let her wet herself?

It's fine! She's only little and when she's better at it she'll hold onto it for longer. Anyone who judges her should be frowned upon! My son loves doing open air poos! Even when the cafe loo is in sight, just for the fun of it - think he likes inspecting his work. Such a man.

If you have been somewhere where you could have accessed a toilet then MO it's not acceptable to let them wee outside.

But if you're nowhere near a loo then I think it's fine to discreetly and hygienically let them wee somewhere. Preferably off the beaten track, under a bush etc.

pelvicfloor do you really let your son have a poo outside when there is a toilet nearby? I hope you're joking, that is disgusting.

My DD weed outside when she was potty training and the nearest loo was too far away. It's known as the grass potty in our family (and DH's)! Another family I know calls it the jungle toilet . We used to take her to somewhere discrete. I can't see any problem with it at all - surely 95% of wees are still in a potty/ proper toilet?

I will still let my 4 year old wee outside if there's no toilet and she's desperate. I've even let her wee in the gutter outside the (locked) public toilets near us. I have seen friends let their kids wee in the park when the loos are a short walk away, but that's more because of laziness on the part of the parent rather than need of the child.

You have to be responsive to them and they don't have the forewarning that an adult does. Behind a tree is always fine.

pelvicfloor - do you also carry bags to pick up after your DC has had a poo?

Thanks everyone. It's so reassuring that other mums do it too. I don't think there's anything wrong with it if there's not a loo in sight. However I read another thread about using a potty in a supermarket. We definitely don't potty in supermarkets! It took us 2.5 hrs to go round the supermarket the other day as we kept going back n fourth to the toilet!

I saw the potty in the supermarket thread too - urgh! I would never have let DD do a wee in the veg aisle! I think that is really quite different to having a little wee on grass in a corner of a park. But I never had one of those portable potties, and we didn't go out of the house when DD was potty training until I was fairly sure she could last a while without needing a wee.

Don't worry everyone - I live in the countryside and it was in the undergrowth well out of the way of humans! And he had said he needed a wee so we weren't expecting the other. And no I didn't pick it up but if it had been where humans walk then of course I would have. We've tried a potette but my DS is quite tall and found it uncomfortable. I have no intention that this becomes our main modus operandi but while he's learning I can't get worked up about it. And yes I do have bags if needed - it's only ever happened twice, we've only been potty training for 3 weeks.

i didn't do potties at all as couldn't see the point of them, so yes inevitably there were some al fresco wees (and indeed memorably an unexpected al fresco poo, pelvic you are not the only one this has happened to)... ds2 is 3.5 and still sometimes needs an outdoor wee by the side of the road if we're caught short nowhere near a loo
