Why is my toilet trained DS peeing everywhere but the toilet?

DS (2.6yo) have be toilet trained since just before his 2nd birthday. We've also recently ditched the nappies at night too. He never used a potty, went straight onto the toilet and we had it cracked within a few days with very few accidents.

However, for the last week or so he's bee peeing in any container that's handy. He's peed in the sink of his pretend kitchen, the tub that houses all the dinosaurs, and just now the lid of his favourite puzzle.

Why is he doing this? As soon as I spot it I grab him, but him on the toilet and tell him that's where he needs to do it, but he just sticks his bottom lip out!

I think it just sounds like experimenting! He does it because he can. Has anything happened in the previous week that has unsettled him, or made him not want to use the loo.

Perhaps removal of the toys he has wee'd in, so that he has to earn them back by using the loo for a certain number of times. Or bribes in the form of sweets, or stickers on a chart when he uses the loo. Or, as he seems to want to wee in a receptacle, what about one of those Weeman urinals for toddlers that hang on the toilet bowl, then tip up into the loo to empty? Might encourage weeing in the right place, if only for the novelty value.

I have no answers for you but am also having a similar problem, also recently stopped nappies at night, as he is fully potty trained, and now he keeps weeing on my carpet.
I wonder if it is the night time changes Confused

Thank you for the tips girlywhirly.

Treats/charts/rewards are wasted on him - he has no interest! Will look into the Weeman thing though! Might be good for DS1 and DH too... I have to wipe the toliet (and usually the floor) every time I need to go!

MonsterBook - How odd! Maybe there is something in that, it does seem to coincide!

My DD is doing this - has been potty trained for about 5 months (shes 2.6) and all of a suddenly she is peeing everywhere (except nursery). So far this week, she has peed on the carpet several times and once down the slide at the park. She is fascinated by watching the pee. I am at my wits end, and have started taking toys away that she earns back by peeing in the toilet.

Mys ds (2.11) went through this about 3 months ago- he was potty trained in a week in January and then suddenly started peeing everywhere- bowls, toy kettles, vases- the wendy house sink was like a public urinal.. Don't know why. He didn't do it in nursery either.
I'm afraid I wasn't very touchy feely- I threatened to put him in nappies again.
He eventually stopped after a couple of weeks but I had started asking him again if he needed to go every 15 minutes. It was a total pain but it stopped. I think it partially was laziness that he worked out he could pee in something rather than bother to go to the potty.

So bizarre! He's always been so good... I've never had to remind him to go...only the first few days, but even then he was better when left to it (he's very, erm, independent Grin)

I am so glad to find this post, what is it with little boys ! My DS has only been potty trained for about 6 weeks but as he was 2.6 he took to it quickly and was soon accident-free. However this week we have had his evening poops in pants every night and today a poop the shortly afterwards a piddle ! I am completely exasperated with it as he had been doing so well and then this, and poopy pants are no fun to remove. what a pain !
I have also been going down the 'if you act like a baby you will go back into nappies like a baby' route as I know he is capable (esp as his daytime poops are always in the potty) but just being distracted/lazy/novetly has worn off. I admit that when he was wet today I just left him in wet pants for 20 minutes so that he could feel how horrible it felt - I felt terrible but I am struggling for ideas ! We also removed some of the toy cars he had been given as rewards when we first started so hopefully he will try to win them back by aiming his pees and poops properly !
Just good to know I am not the only one in this frustrating position.
